Are you talkin acorn tips, where they mushroom back down torward the tine? Similar to a bullet after flight?

If so, those are neat looking deer, but I think i read in D&DH mag that it is just another abnormality, kinda like a droptine or kicker point. They seem to be more rare though, because I hardly ever see pics of deer with acorn tips.
any pics of this? ive never seen it.

I've got one on the wall at home, I'll have to try and get a pic to show you. The ends of the main beams are both like that.

Rounded tips canhappen fora variety of reasons. Like others said could be genitics. Alot of times deer will chip the ends of their tines and thru normal wear and tear they become rounded. another possiblility is that the deer just wasnt fininsh growing this antlers before the velvet was shed. Most times the antler are fully developed when the tips become pointed under the velvet but in certain instances the burr cuts off blood supply before the tips finish growing...which leads to rounded tips. Really has nothing to do with age.

This I believe. A buddy of mine shot a 2.5 year old 9 point this year and all of his tips were rounded. We tried to figure it out and he suggested that they were damaged in velvet, but I couldn't see every tip on both antlers being damaged. The velvet coming off before the tips harden definitely makes sense.

It's either genetics or the velvet coming off premature. I doubt it has anything to do with age or you see it on older bucks more often.

Thanks, I guess the guy was talking 'cause he could, not 'cause he knew. And I didn't refute 'cause I didn't know but now I do. cool cool.

I would say It had something to do with that velvet coming off premature or possibly even this buck did a pile of rubbing on tree's. Was it just the end of the main beams? All the tines? G1's? Abnormal points?

Every single point on this 10 is that way. The browtines are not as rounded though. I'm convinced now, it's probably genetics. I just don't see excessive rubbing on trees making for such perfect fingertip round points.

RE: What do rounded tine tips mean?

actually hoytail that is a perfect examle ofa rack that wasnt completly finished growing! Browtines are closest to theburr hence they would be the ones the are closest to being fully developed at the tips. all tips will be blunt in this type of case. Does the rack haveblunt tips like this pic? More blunted? less? This rack is a result of not having fully developed before the burr shut off blood supply, leaving the tips under developed.
*notice the brow is more developed compared to the other tines
