I am willing to bet that all outdoor professional archers use their level at some point in their shot sequence. This isn't a feel thing,it is an accuracy thing. Most of them won't need it on a level ground shot. They balance their equipment so it needs very little adjustment by them to get it set level.BUT,they will need it on uphill and downhill shots when footing isn'tas good andthe odd angles of the ground will throw things off.

I have the Viper and I have the 2nd, 3rd and if I did it right, 4th axis set (I DID NOT DO IT RIGHT...LOL) and yes, I use my level every shot.

In my back yard, it's a side hill, if I don't use my level, I drift shots right. (downhill) It's more noticable at farther distances and the steeper the hill. As I've said before, archers have a tendancy to cant the top limb down hill on side hill shots and will have a tendancy to shoot right.

I've been called worse by........

Nevermind....you're welcome!

I KNOW I probably should be using my level. I don't know why I don't.....other than it's level when i do look. I guess I KNOW it's "good enough" for hunting.....but it probably isn't for 3D.

I'm gonna switch my thinking up.......

Matt:

I won't argue with you....but I'll tell you in golf there are "feel" players and there are "technical" players. I was the former.

I would find it very difficult to believe that every elite archer was a "technical" archer. I could easily be wrong, though.

I was talking to my barber at lunch. The guy won (his brother has won it, too) the Buckmaster's shoot is one of his customers. Gary (my barber) was asking how much he had to practice to get that good.

Hardly none, he says. He said he shoots enough to keep sharp for hunting. Those guys are shooting targets to 60yds......and some of them are moving.

I'm going to try to incorporate the level into my shots......shooting BB in the basement. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm not naive enough to think it can't help.

I appreciate the advice.
I agree with this, to the Nth degree. Howard Hill certainly didn't need a "3rd Axis."

I have one on my 3-d bow but not on my hunting bow and Iadjust the 3rd axis on BOTH.

So yes,I know what it is and how to set itproperlyand WHY it is important.

If you don't look at your bubble, then the 3rd is an absolute waist of time.BUT,you need to incorporate looking at the bubble into your shot sequence.

I'll be honest, I don't use the levels on my sights, because I have found that they weren't true. I even went as far as warming one up and removed it on one of my Sidewinders, because I kept trying to talk myself into using it, when all itdid was throw me off. Now I'm certainly no GREAT archer, I shoot decent enough to get by, groups usually follow the 1"per 10yds rule out to 60yds, after that, my old eyes don't like trying to focus that much anymore. I supposereading the "explanation" on page 2 here, explains why I felt like my levels were lying to me right from the start.
