Why say "harvest" when Hunting?!

I have been getting back into hunting again after years of being absent from it. One thing I have noticed is how everyone is using the word "harvest" when they hunt/kill an animal. Is this the new politically correct word for it or a trending thing to say now?

It probably sounds better. When people ask me if I had any luck bear hunting or deer hunting I usually say yes or no I did/didn't get one.

It probably relates to ones vocabulary or the lack of one ...

Example: "Things you own, end up owning you"or, "Thingsyou possess, end up possessing you!"

Anyone who says harvest as you are soon to find out by many here is thought to have misplaced their testicles. If you don't say kill you are far less manly!
I say know your audience and respond accordingly! I personally don't like the word harvest, because harvesting to me seems like what you do when you are dealing with fruit or crops.I will say taken,or got,or shot in the company of people where I thought using the word kill may be a bit difficult for them to take.Just trying to be polite or considerate.

Word...it sounds like you should be holding a glass of wine. "Yes dear sir, I harvested a fine buck today. He was a dandy fellow chap".

The reason for this is because people think it softens the blow that they actually killed something. You know....... likening it to the status of a vegetable. [:'(]

And in my opinion, over used especially with the Drury productions, way over used.

It'd be simply to add, I took, I tagged, I downed, I arrowed, I shot, I recovered, I killed. I use many different terms including harvest, I simply try not to over use any of them.

I hunt to kill deer, if I want to harvest something I'll plant beans!

I haven't got to use anything when it comes to bow...but I have killed/taken/took/got/missed many with my shotgun.
