A little bit of this, a little bit of that, as far as going trad this year.
As far as dominate eye goes, I will explain this on the other post.

I imagine because same eye/hand means the archer is using a form of "sighting" when shooting - ie point of aim etc whereas cross dominant archery is very instinctive ( you cannot look "down" the shaft of at the point etc )

not better or worse, just is IMO, and maybe easier to get the knack of when younger

I'm gonna give it a try this coming year. Practice begins this weekend. Any suggestions for a left eye dominant right hand shooter???? This is why I typically stick to my crossbow, shooting left handed.
No see I read a very interesting article on this a few years ago by G. Fred Asbell and he said if you ever want to be totally proficient that you should change what hand you shoot with to match your eye dominance. But that said I know many guys who shoot cross dominant.
I agree with this statement, even though I refuse to follow it. I injured my right eye a decade ago, and have became extremely left eye dominant, but just can't bring myself to move to the left hand tobow shoot. I have moved to left hand for handguns, and have improved. But I can't bring myself to do it with bow or rifle. Its such a pain.

I've been shooting trad bows exclusively for almost a decade. Much like centerfire rifles, compounds didn't offer much challenge and took the fun out of shooting, since they all but shot themselves. I had all but lost interest in archery until I found my way to trad bows. I find trad bows to be much simpler, more challenging and rewarding, and world's more enjoyable to shoot and hunt with.

There are those that believe the only true instinctive shot a person takes is his first one. ;)

Personally, I use what has been labeled as conditioned instinctive shooting which uses the arrow even less as an aiming tool then secondary vision. I do however revert to gap after my target exceeds or comes very close to my point on. I believe though that in Asbell's article he refered to using the dominant eye with instinctive archery as a must do.I don't think it is necessarily a must do, but it could be beneficial and have some merit. I wouldn't say I always agree with Asbell, but he is a pretty respectable archer.

Personally, I only had to deal with the dominant/cross dominanteyewith my son, not myself. But IMO, the switch will be worth it for him in the longrun. And the displine and coordination obtained from it will be good for him.

DANG AK!!! That is a cool bow. Very impressed. You made that yourself? Something about shooting a replica of a bow design from long ago that gets the blood flowing. Very cool!!!

I bought a recurve about 10 years ago. Also some cedar arrows and bear broadheads. Tendonitis put and end to shooting it that year. I hunt in areas with very few deer. my shot oppertunities are few and far between. If I ever hunt an area that offers more shot oppertunities I will give it another try. My hat is off to all of you that hunt that way!
