With all the hype on speedbows nowadays, I'm going to a slowbow;), I'll be going with the Longbow this season! I'm kinda fed up and bored with the Compound, I'm looking to challenge MYSELF more this season! Same thing with the Gun season, this year will be the Flintlock with a patched Round Ball!
Thats what its all about BHF!! I've been shooting recurves for 30 years to be exact and I'm going on 13 years of bow hunting strictly with a recurve. I haven't picked up a compound for hunting in 13 years and I don't miss it one bit, thats the way I am. There's allot of satisfaction when taking an animal with no gadgets, it really makes ya feel good!! Everyone has there own way of hunting, mines Traditional and it will never change. Whatever works for you, good luck to the new Traditional hunters!!

I will go more trad this year. I got the feral hog last year, now its time for a deer. I hunted with the trad gear probably 10% of the time last season. I intend to make it 50% this coming season. I have been practicing with it quite often. I find it to be very relaxing, much more so than shooting the Diamond. I have also made a breakthrough of sorts recently. I'm not sure what happened, something just clicked. I am shooting the recurve a lot better lately. From different distances, from tree stands, sitting, kneeling, I am all of a sudden,( after shooting it for 2 years!),much more confident and accurate. I will kill a deer with it this year. And I'm taking it to New Mexico in April for a turkey hunt. I plan to tag one bird with the Diamond out of a pop-up and then try a trad bird.

I'm gonna give it a try this coming year.Practice begins this weekend. Any suggestions for a left eye dominant right hand shooter???? This is why I typically stick tomy crossbow, shooting left handed.

yes, when you throw a baseball, or a football, or shoot basketball, or hit golf balls ...... do you do it right handed ? If so, don't change a single thing ! Your mind has all your life coordinated your left eye dominance with your right handedness.

I have a 54# Zipper recurve and gads I shoot it well. I'm working on spining my old Graphlex shafts to the right length, and having a total arrow weight of maybe 650 grains (maybe 700). I'll probably hit a blistering 165 fps with it :) I'm looking to go to 3D more this year, shoot small game, and the big one is spring turkey hunting. I'm using only my recurve for them this year

No see I read a very interesting article on this a few years ago by G. Fred Asbell and he said if you ever want to be totally proficient that you should change what hand you shoot with to match your eye dominance. But that said I know many guys who shoot cross dominant.

Kudos to you guys who are doing it, or have been doing it, even if part time. The commitment required for taking on that challenge is commendable in itself and taking an animal after making that commitment must be very satisfying. Every year I toss around the idea of doing it and someday will make the plunge, but I don't think it will be this year.

Best of luck to all that are doing it.

My "new to me" Bear Montana should arrive today.:D:D I was really hoping it'd arrive Saturday, but nope. I won't make the same pledge GMMAT did though.... I know that if I did, I'm stubborn enough to stick to itand I might end up getting skunked this season.
