It was my second season whenI saw the first one

I also had that deer in bow range, when I saw him.


I have only done half of that, and would rather stop there.

Im thirteen and have been bowhunting for 3 yearsand only shoot bucks that will score 150 or over so i havent got one for a year but i saw four different bucks that will go 160 but they were out of bowrange.

I have always consided a 4.5 year old a mature buck butthat is just me. So with that in mind...

4th year for first mature buck seen, he was in bow range and he died.

My 1st year I saw more than I ever have....to date my 1st year was the only year I've seen a "shooter", since I've seen plenty of 2.5yo that'll go 135". Passed a solid 2.5yo 8 pt this year that would have gone 130-140.

I have no problem holding off, this year I think management bucks may be taken, I'm tired of not harvesting, management bucks and does should be coming soon! ie this fall.

I wouldn't even know how to answer that one.

I started bowhunting at 12 (without knowledge) and I got serious at 15, that was 26 seasons ago. I don't remember all the deer I've seen in that time frame nor can I recall what year I shot at them....LOL

I can recall however recovering my first mature animal, if 3.5 years old is mature, some say yeah, some nah and that was in 2001.

5 yrs. Aged by DNR at 4.5 yrs. but not a big rack. In fact he would be considered a cull buck in some circles. It took me 11 yrs. to get a mature, big racked buck into bow range. Took him(best racked buck) in 1988.

I'm with Rybo in that when I was growing up we had one tag and if it was a buck it was worthy of that tag.

Things are a lot different now and not only is my mindset different, but there is a more realistic opportunity at a mature deer.
