So, those of you that take the long shot, where is your 80 yard pin?

Right below the 70 yard pin - and right above the 90 yard pin :)

Just kidding . . . . . I don't even have an 80 yard pin. The bottom one is 70. Below that is the level on the Spott Hog.

How much does an arrow dropfrom 0 to80 yards? Wouldnt your pin almost cover the entire deer at that distance?

At those distances you dont cover the target with your pin, you use a 6 o'clock hold and the smallest pins you can get. I shoot regularly out to 70 yards.

My furthest deer with a bow was 36 yards, and I vowed never to take that shot again. I had a double lung turn into a single lung/liver at a blink of an eye and to no fault of mine. My arrow flew perfect. Yes, I recovered the deer.

My neighbor and I were messing around, seeing how far away from the target we could get. I was hitting the deer target at 60 yards pretty much every time, but not in the greatest spots… I was using the housing that holds the pins as my 60 yard marker…

I took a buck at 47 yards, good double lung shot that put him down within 15 yards. Funny thing is, about two weeks after that shot, I missed a doe at 16 yards. Go figure!

Longest shot I ever took was the first shot I ever took at a deer with a compound. I suppose it was close to 50 yards. I hit the deer high, behind the rib cage. It bled a lot but Ididn't recover it in spite of good snow cover. With a bear razorhead it would've been toast.

Since then I've taken a few shots in the 30 yard range, misses. One kill at about 25.... Many at 10 or less.

Bowhunters are products of their enviroments it seems. I practice out to 85 yards but my longest kill was right at 30 with another at 28 if I remember right. All the rest have been around 20 or as short as 15 feet, last year was 12 yards. I am proud of not having to shoot long shots, I like it close. However, if I lived in some western states I too would be shooting much further probably.
