Going aluminum!!
Well, I am going back to aluminum this year. I've done the light/fast/carbon thing for a few years now, and don't have anything against it, it has it's advantages. I just want to change things up a bit, and after shooting these lincoln log X7's......I REALLY like how hard they hit, and they are forgiving. Suddenly my X count shot up, wonder why??;)
So anyway, I'm wanting to shoot an aluminum w/ a finished weight around 500 grains ( I still shoot those 282 fps ) and I will be dipping and cresting them. That's where I'm looking for ideas. I know I want them dipped white, and I will be using 4" feathers, 2 flo orange and 1 barred white.... I'm looking for ideas on a cresting pattern, so if any of you have crested arrows, post them up. Even if you have wraps that are in the tradtional crested pattern, I'm interested in seeing them. Don't worry, I won't copy them, I just want some ideas. Thanks. |

RE: Going aluminum!!
I thought about going this route, too......but I'm afraid all the guys I shoot 3D with wouldn't be very kind to my new choice in weaponry.;)

RE: Going aluminum!!
There used to be a guy in the classifieds that had a ton of pics, but I checked and couldn't find them.
You might want to try the FMJ for hunting. They carry a lot of weight. Wouldn't work too good for targets, pretty skinny, but great hunting arrows. |
RE: Going aluminum!!
Aluminums were fun to shoot---but I have been with carbons for the past three years and like the way they zip through things!

RE: Going aluminum!!
arrows42071 is the guy with the custom cresting and capping

RE: Going aluminum!!
I don't know Don. I do know that he was very helpful to me when I started capping and cresting. I talked to him on the phone a couple of times, great guy. Ask Rob if he has been on lately or just e-mail him if you have any questions

Forget the fancy lines and bars....White with pink hearts playa. White with pink hearts!!!

RE: Going aluminum!!
cant wait to see what you come up with. I always wondered how dipping them, then rotating them in a cresting machine and then playing with an airbrush would look verses the quill brush technique. I think you could actually do fades with an airbrush as well as pin stripes, or combine the two.

RE: Going aluminum!!
That's why for 3D I use jet black Jeff. Black arrows, fletching, and nocks. You just can't see them. I like the looks of all black arrows, myself. |
RE: Going aluminum!!
I'm not worried about them seeing them, Mobo.....I'm worried about them HITTING them.;)
I have black arrow.....black vanes....and black nocks. ONLY thing you can see on my arrows is the pin nock bushing. I asked Matt/PA about magic markering them black. He said "you don't wanna be 'that guy'"....lol. He said if you're gonna shoot 'em like that.....you'd BETTER be able to bring it! Mine are still silver:D |

Yeah, that's not it......I think it has something to do w/ the nearly 90 pounds of KE it's producing........I THINK, I could be wrong.....

RE: Going aluminum!!
You'll love em Mobow. I switched back last year to XX78's. I dont see myself shooting anything else for a while.

RE: Going aluminum!!
ORIGINAL: mobow ORIGINAL: jmbuckhunter I keep mine clean where the feathers go. When I need to re-fletch I don't have to worry about scrapping paint off the arrow and redoing it! I crested these myself, when I took the pics they weren't finished. I did the same cresting red/black/silver over the Carbon express logo. They look great and are easy to see! ![]() |

You beat me last year youngster, but not this year!! Muahahahahahahaha.... Actually, it's to satisfy my inquentiable desire to tinker with stuff, figure out what makes it tick. It's how I learn. I HAVE to mess with it..my brain is like a sponge, absorbing everything and anything archery. You know, I'm actually beginning to think that one really isn't better than the other, just different. It just depends on what your goals are. ps...you think this one will go 97 pages????:D |
