Public or Private Land?

100% public hunting for me! Usually the farther in you go the less interference from other hunters. You still will put up with the occassional disturbance but most hunters will not be dedicated to hunt that far in on a regular basis. I do most of my hunting during the week, most other hunters are at work. Look over aerial photos of your hunting area and find the food plots and bedding areas and the corridors between them. Some public areas will have areas off limits to hunting. Deer use these areas for security, you can hunt the trail leading to these areas for productive stand sites. Sometimes you may need to get up earlier to beat the other hunters to the preferred spots. There are ways to produce on public ground, you just need to use unorthodox tactics.

but really i only hunt public lands best advice i can give you....first look figure out what areas you would like to hunt....try to pic lots..small areas or large....wildlife lands, NF, BLM,State lands..etc......then use aerial images to get a little better idea of the area....figure out which areas you want to start with and go ... scout, scout, scout, scout........cannot do it enough in the off season....now i don't mean walk throgh the deers beds but try to glass from a higher point...or just go in looking for deer signs during the late spring...figure out which ones show the least amount of hunters with the best sign....hunt there....do remember not to overlook small pieces of public land...i mean like square pieces less then a 1/4 mile wide...i have done well hunting these smaller areas that no one will hunt........also, your best bet is to get away from other hunters..in most cases....i hunted KS this past year and there was a large piece of public land that did have hunters on it..i used them to my advantage and hunted some really thick areas that they didn't want to hunt....i did not kill a deer there but did see them and did see some bucks...

semi-public military base--only thing semi-public about it is there is a quota per hunting area each day for safety---other than that it is public...do 99% of my hunting on public land and have for the last 15 years...wish I had some private land to hunt once in awhile.
