Bud, you've got the patience of Job. At the one year mark, I'd been asking serious questions, but that's a moot point now. I realize the man being a family "friend" complicates the matter but you should definately consult an attorney right away.
I feel for you, I've had bad taxidermy experiences myself, once I used an out-of-state guy and got sent the wrong animal!! It finally got straightened out but whata headache.

That dont sound good Steve, I would be right up front and ask him what the deal was, Its way over due. Great picture and great Bear. I made quite a few trips looking for one with a head that big.
I sure hope things work out for you.

I didn't think a lawyer or anyone could do anything about it. I didn't put no money down. What really can a lawyer do?

I agree, it's timea get a lawyer or the law involved.Sorry for your troubles Shultzy.

My first guess is that he lost your hide or screwed it up and is stalling till he can substitute it. Or he just plain lost it and wont face the situation.
I dont think you need a lawyer yet but going to the local JP or magistrateshould get his attention and hopefully some quick results. That bear has a monetary value even if you would never sell it and if the bear is gone or damaged, you can at least hit him hard in the wallet. The fact that you gave him no money doesnt matter. You put somethingthat has significant value to you in his care custody and control. He is in the business of accepting animals to mount and has a responsibility to keep it safe and return it to you.

I'm trying to feel sympathy for 'ya bud, but how in Gods green earth could you wait 8 years!??? Honestly, friend of the family or not, you kind of put yourself ina tight spot by sitting on this one so long.
In any case,I'd take a couple buddies with me and walk in unannounced and tell him you are there to pick up your hide and a full refund plus interest. I'd settle for nothing less. No way in hell could that hide still be at the tannery. If he stalls, stammers or otherwise can't produce, you'll have to be the judge of what happens immediately after. I know what I'd do.

Yeah I know, I'm taking part of the blame in this too. It still doesn't make it right but I sure wish I could have a video playing as we have ourselves a conversation. Believe me I will get answers and if not he's going to have to change his shorts when were done!!
