And I answered that , too, Dan. YES.....AFTER I clean, sharpen and re-lubricate the Rage 2 blades.......I re-used them, again.

I just think we need to all use some common sense.

The sharper the better is common knowledge. Having the common sense to know your equipment will get the job done is every hunter's responsibility. I left for the woods on the last day I hunted with 4 arrows in my quiver......with 3 different BH's on the end of them. Also.....all but 2 were different lengths.
But....I had tested ALL of them and they flew true.

I had total confidence in all my gear. Just like every other day.
That was not the original questionSure I will reuse a broadhead after.........................................yada , yada, yada, but I won't reuse one that has not been checked and reconditioned to my liking. Common sense in posts would save some arguing

lets say you miss a deer/coyote/or anything else and you brand new broadhead just goes into the ground. Do you reuse the broadhead on a deer?, or do you think it would be too dull. I shoot thunderhead 100 grains.
Well....THIS is the original question. He uses Thunderheads....I use Rage. Both have replaceable blades.....and both can be re-sharpened.

No argument, here. I answered the original question many times, throughout.

I will reuse a broadhead after using it on a deer, only after I check them and sharpen if necessary.

I actually do shoot the broadheads I'm going to hunt with. I use those dull blades that I save from past seasons when testing them. Then I replace the blades and hunt with them.

I probably don't need to test the new ones but I do anyway.
There are so many variables in hunting that could change the outcome of a hunt. The ones that I can control... I will put in my favor.
Christine, you dont actually think your going to change someones mind-set with this very logical, common sense approach do you?
You have to threaten tomash their fingers off with a dull machete going 300fps or something like that!

Maybe a better question would be "Why are some bowhunters so damn anal?" It seems that any question comes down to "If you don't do it my way, you're unethical." Bull$hit.

Perhaps because some things are unethical.

Broadheads kill by hemoragic shock. This was explained very well by a surgeon Dr Baumgartner several years ago. I wish I could find his article.
The bottom line was that it was absolutely necessaryfor the broadhead to be razor sharp. Do people take animals with dull heads? Absolutely! Do people lose animals with sharp heads? Of course. But just as HNI_Christine said, we should control every variable we can. Broadhead sharpness is one of the easiest.
I did find this article. In it the last paragraph speaks to "sharpness"
http://www.bowhunters.org.au/Broadhead%20Study%20Part%201.pdf

Whether you sharpen or change your blades, we owe it to the animals we hunt to kill them as quickly and humanely as possible. Anything less is well...unethical.

You are irresponsible if you hunt with a broadhead that is less than razor sharp ...... PERIOD!!! Quit being lazy and cheap and either resharpen them if you can or buy new inserts .........

I guess that makes me cheap, lazy and irresponsible. Such is life. []

I apologize to the peanut galleryfor my complete lack of ethics, but really - until the deer I shoot stop dying - I'm gonna keep doing what I'm doing.

If I run one through the boiler room of whitie buck, you can bet your bottom dollar that I'm gonnaslip that bloody arrowout of theground andrun my grimy little paw overthe blades. If they're even close to being as sharp as my Buck knife, free of dents/bends/broken blades, it's getting cleanedup in the laundry tub that nightwith some scent-free soap and hot water. If there's a dull spot - I might hit it with the stone. Maybe. One test-fire into the block, if it hits the bullseye, you guessed it! Right back in the quiver.

Sometimes I wonder how I can even sleep at night. Oh the horrors of my ways.
