Had squirrels on me.
Had birds on me. Had a weasel on me. Saw a doe get bred. Saw bucks sparring. Saw bucks make rubs and scrapes. Heard the snort wheeze, grunt and the growl. Saw a red tail hawk kill a squirrel. Saw a great horned owl try to take the squirrel from the hawk. Had raccoons climb my tree. Heard a doe grunt. Saw a doe mistime a jump over a fence and wipe out. Almost got dragged down a ravine by a turkey I shot. Almost got ran over bya deer I shot. Saw deer use a licking branch. Heard fawns calling for their mother. Saw coyotes chasing deer. Saw a coyote rush a flock of 1000 geese and come up empty. Saw a buck try to jump a creek and do a giant belly flop. Saw deer sleep. Grunted in plenty of bucks. Rattled in only one. Saw 4 B&C bucks. Got turned around once (not lost).;) |

Ok, lets see.......
Some of this stuff happened to me while I was fishing in the mountains too. Had a Red Tail Hawk fly past my head at about 18in while up in my stand Seen Bobcats playing (mother and kittens) for about 15min. (way cool) Had a Cougar steal my string of fish.....While fishing about 50yd away![:@] Had a shotgun slugfly by my head so close I could hear it "whizzing" as it went by. (last time I hunted public land during the gun season BTW:D) Stepped on a Rattle Snake, to this day I don't know why he didn't strike me.  ......glad he didn't though.;)Had a Feral Cat "stalk" to within 2 feet of me while hunting and calling forCoyotes only to realize I wasn't the biggest frickin mouse he had ever seen!:D Had a Coyote run right up to me from behind so fast that when he realized I wasn't his next mealand tried to stop, he slid into the tree I was leaning against! Had a whacked outgirl pretend she was "Tonto" with full face paint and feathers in her hair put her ear to the ground by a Coyote print and proceeded to try and tell me it was a Cougar some distance away and that we should try to catch up to it and kill it.........with the .22's we had.  (long story, I posted about it a while back.:D) I'm sure there is more,I just can't think of them right now. |

Had a huge owl land on the branch I was standing on, less than 5 feet.
Had a mature bobcat walk on the log I was sitting on (ground), got within 5 feet, then backed up! Had hawks make pass at my head a few times. Had raccoon incidents much like others have described. Have taken 6 deer with bow from ground. 2 of those were still hunting on public land. One was a mature doe I called in with a tending sequence on 10/9. Go figure. Missed a possible P & Y twice while still hunting on public land. 9:00 am on a weekend, heavily hunted area. Go figure. With daughter, watched a hawk miss a red squirrel twice, 10 feet from us. Seen squirrels fall out of trees (they bounce). Got threatened and run off by scary individual with gun, on land I had permission to be hunting. Saw B & C class buck in bow range. Missed a slam dunk P & Y 4 times while road hunting! (long, long ago lol) |

Saw a bobcat kill a squirrel. That was so cool. It was in bow range but by the time I realized I wanted to shoot the cat it was too late.

Sounds like it might be good.......:D Looking back on this, it's kinda funny, but at the time it was a "Twilight Zone" episode.:D I met a girl I college one day while studying, she says she knows me from football and we struck up a conversation, eventually talking about hunting. She tells me she is "Part Black Foot Indian, and hunts all the time." and that she wanted to go hunting with me sometime. Ok, I'm thinking it's a kinda strange first date but she's pretty good looking and it's the off season so I'll take her Rabbit hunting in the foot hills.....who knows what might happen.;) Well the day arrives and she meets me at one of the many dirt roads off of the canyon road (Utah) that lead into the foot hills. I notice that she has a small part of her hair (next to her ear)braided and a feather hanging from it.:eek:AND....you guessed it...HER FACE PAINTED!!! Now I'm thinking "this broad is nuts" but I give her the benefit of the doubt, perhaps she is just proud of her heritage, plus...she IS good looking.:) So we grab our rifles (.22's) and head out.We had been walking for some time talking about school, football and such when all of a sudden she spots some tracks (Coyote) and drops to the ground...procedes to put her ear to the ground......looks up at me and says......."Big female Cougar...about a half mile ahead heading south, if we hurry we can catch it." I'm just standing there like and I say..."First, that's a Coyote track....Second, even if it were a Cougar track, which it's not! we don't have a tag for it, nor a gun to kill it with, and third your frickin nuts!!!" Well she stands up and says "Hey, I don't need a tag I'm an American Indian." :eek:At this point I'm thinking this crazy broad is gonna shoot me or something so I say to her, "Good luck with the Cougar, I'm heading back to my car." and turn and walk away. I seen her a couple more times on campus but she acted like she didn't know me......thank God!!:D It took a turn for the "surreal" when she flopped down on the ground! I'm just standing there thinking to myself "Why do you always pick the crazy ones John?" :D I couldn't get out of there fast enough...the whole time down back to my car I kept looking over my shoulder hoping she wasn't there pointing her gun at me!:D:D:D I know....but this chick was certifiable! I mean, she's on the ground playing "Tonto" and I'm standing there like "you gotta be freakin kidding me!" When something like that happens to a person, it takes a couple seconds for what you're seeing to compute. After I processed what just went down, I said what I said and got the hell out of there!:D I could tell she was not happy with me and I wanted to keep my hair!:) |

Had a hawk attack my turkey decoy.
Had a guy burrying water softer salt under my stand while i was in it :Dand toting a rifle, He got caught ;) Stepped in crap :eek: lost knives. been lost. fell in water numerous times. Had my lab track me from four miles away while walking out in the dark and scare the hell out of me, i thought he was a raptor. crapped on by birds. been stranded when the bottom of my climber went to the ground. coon fights. squrrill fights. |
