RE: What Next

I have a problem with the 5 pit bulls the folks next door own. He can't afford a fence and won't chain them. He says thats what makes them mean. I have a 3 yo daughter. There is no way I'm taking a chance of those dogs hurting her on my land. When they cross my fence to come on to my land they get peppered with a 12 ga. small game load. If they continue,( and they haven't yet), I may grab the 00 buck instead of the birdshot. I have checked with the law. I can't legally kill one unless I feel as if my person, family, or livestock is threatened. I feel threatened every time they enter my land. and for all of you defenders of the pit, i don't care a lick if the breed is getting a bad rap. I won't take a chance with my daughter.
For what its worth, I also own 5 dogs. Each of them has a collar that will shock them if they get within 3 feet of the invisible fence wire I took the considerable time and expense to install. I care enough about my pets. Too bad for my neighbor if he doesn't care enough about his to keep them on his land. To date I have peppered 3 of the 5. They have not returned since the last episode about a month ago.

Wow, what a wide extreme of opinions from one end of the scope to the other. Still haven't decided what course I'll take when the time comes. As far as God burning down my barn TWICE, I would have to hunt down whoever God gave the matches and accelerant to and ensure they spent some time in a smallbarred room with BUBBA. Since I live 10 miles from the nearest town, the sheriff says I can either take civil action against the owners or put the animals down myself. Of course, when I got home tonight, someone had ridden their ATV's through the yard and down the lane to the back of the property. Suprising how whoever did this didn't have the nerve to do this while I was home. After 30+ years serving this country, I don't have a lot of patience for harassment. Also, I worked hard to get to where I am today and expect people to respect my property as much as I do other's.

Let us know what the outcome is when you decide what to do.:)

with someone riding an atv through your property i would set up some video monitoring equipment. It seems like they didnt take your advice very well. I would contact local authorities. I dont know if it is legal or not, but you could trap them. I know they have the humane traps, but im not sure if they make them big enough for your application. Then you could take them to an animal shelter and hopefully they would go to a family that actually cares about the welfare of thier pets. I would havea real hard time shooting someones pet, I would exhaustallavenues before I went that far. Now if they are aggressive and I or anyone in my family felt threatened I would smoke them in a heart beat.

I'll be gone from home for the next week, but when I get back I am going to set up trail cams again down the lane to see who is visiting while we are gone. I will deal with trespassers in a proper manner (utilizing local law enforcement) and if the dogs keep coming back, I will try every avenue possible to encourage them to stay away. When I have exhausted some ideas I received from friends, then I will attempt to live trap them.

ON the record, I tell you that I don't condone the harvesting of dogs. It makes hunters look bad, and gives us a negative image.

OFF the record I tell you that sometimes you just have to roll hard, and it's a dog eat dog world out there. The world is an imperfect place, dogs die every day, we just don't always HEAR about them......If ya catch my drift...;)
I concur with you wholeheartedly :D

AF Hunter what you stated in your last post sounds like a good course of action.
