ORIGINAL: superstrutter ORIGINAL: Sliverflicker Had me a Dog named Porky when I was a kid, named after porky pig. He was an ugly dog, his teeth were crooked and stuck outside his mouth, but he was the best hunting dog you ever seen, he was my protector and my best friend. Dad dropped me and porky of at the old fishing hole one day and we jumped a rabbit on the way to our spot, Porky cut out after him doing what he was born to do, "HUNT". To make a long story short the farmer that owned the property next to the fishing hole shot and killed my best friend. Well God punished that farmer, because shortly after he killed my buddy his barn burnt to the ground, He built a new one and it burnt to the ground also. It was a shame, about Porky I mean. The dogs are just doing what they do, call the law on the neighbors ever time they get on your property, they will get tierd of picking them up or paying a fine and either get rid of them or keep them locked up better. Its not the dogs fault! You dont want God to set your place on fire. Are you sure it was God whodid it? |
RE: What Next
not sure about your state
But when i was in NC i had the problem i told the neighbor to keep it over there they said it broke every collar they had . I went and bought them a choker made of steel . I bought the lot and trailer next to mine for the land. Well i also bought a couch and chair off the guy that owned the place. I was moving some stuff over there and left the door open for like 5 minutes. I get back over there and the couch is all riped up and missing a cushion and the chair is torn . There went 150.00 bucks. I told the neighbor what happen and he said he would repay me . He did Well i got some chicken around that time. They told me since he had to pay for the couch he was getting raid of the dog .well since it was a husky pit mix they wold put it down. I took the dog loved it was a great dog if you gave it time and the care it need. Well two months later they wonted it back for there daughter. I told them if they keep it on the lash i would let them have it . I gave them the choker back and the 40 feet off running cable so it could run . Well 2 weeks later it is lose and sitting by my fence by the chicken pen . dangest thing happen it walked 150 miles to Gatlinburg and found a great home by Gatlinburg . But any way they sheriff told me when i called that if the animal was cause problems or threatening my property or animals on my properly i could kill it but not haul it away. if it was me the next time i would drop them then call the owner and tell him to come get them. but call the local sheriff ad ask if you can shot them. ORIGINAL: AF Hunter I am getting to my wit's end. Today, I got up and looked out towards the west side of the pond where I frequently see deer bedding. The snow was falling (imagine that?!?), and through the snow, I could see movement on the far side of the pond. I strained to see what it was through the falling snow. Sure enough, it was several deer running from south to north. There was a dog chasing them. As they ran north, all of a sudden the broke east across the pond dam. As they did, another dog broke from over the hill from the west where the deer broke. I watched as the dogs came as far as mid dam and stopped. The deer continued east across my property and then crossed over to the neighbors. The dogs returned to the west side of the pond and started chasing rabbits. I sat there contemplating the proper move while this was going on. Finally, I went to my truck and drove to the farm to my west. I asked the kid who answered the door if they had a couple of dogs on of which is black with a white spot on it's chest. He replied that they did. I told him that his dogs were running the deer on my property and I would appreciate it if they kept their dogs on their property. His reply was "Well I keep putting them in the fenced area, but they get out somehow." I explained that I deer hunt and his dogs running my property ruins my hunt. After he gave the look of "what do you expect me to do?", I went on to say that if they ruined another hunt, I'd have to put them down. He got upset and slammed the door in my face. I almost feel like it would have been better just to shoot them and drop them over the fence on his side of the property line. Any ideas out there? |
RE: What Next
I haven't read this whole thing, but I live in SC...where Dog hunting is still legal. (for now). So this is constatly a hot topic.
In SC it is ILLEGAL to shoot someone's dog. I've seen it go to court and the judge look at the owner and ask how much he wants for the dog. Then looks at the guy who shot the dog and tell him "well, you are lucky he settled with that, if it were my dog you would be paying a lot more". |
RE: What Next

RE: What Next
those dozens would start to drop real quick around me
ORIGINAL: Beezer Consider yourself lucky. It could be a dozen dogs and half a dozen pick-ups flying up and down the road. Two dogs getting out of a fenced yard might seem like a problem, try living and hunting with those who do it purposely every weekend and two days during the week. |

RE: What Next
I had that same problem 3 years ago . . . I asked the neighbors politely to solve the problem for me, I didn't want to shoot the dogs. . . .but you know what? I'm a blue collar guy who works hard for what he's got. . .mycabin was built by the hands of my family and I. . .and the small amount of land we own is OUR little piece of heaven on earth. . .those dogs are gone now, and the deer and turkey have returned. . .and my daughters get to run and play in the woods without looking over their shoulders. . .did I kill them?. . . .you're damn right I did. . .I asked them politely and gave TWOfollow upwarnings, and I don't feel badabout it at all.
