Who’s still hunting?

I have six more days, but the big bucks are really busted up, rack wise. I would rather let them go than shoot them when they are ugly. There are three that I would have loved earlier, but now they could walk under me, free pass. I am still hunting, but not hopeful. They bucks are bunching back up into bachelor groups, sure sign the rut is done. Gotta catch them on a feeding pattern now.

I have until Jan 5th. I'm hunting one farm that is bow only until tomorrow and I can't hang any type of stand. Then it gets opened up to the dogs... My big fat boy is in there, and he kicked my butt this year. He's better than I, but I enjoyed the game and the lessons that he taught me. I plan to kill him next year, but I may go out there again this week, we'll see. But yes, still, still-hunting…

Season closes on Jan 6th here in ND. I hunted all weekend and saw a grand total of 1 doe. Come to think of it, I've seen a whopping 3 deer in the past month. Definitely the worst late season I've ever experienced.

I've been out nearly every afternoon for the last two weeks... taking a break tonight to spend some time with the wife and some close friends, and I'll be back at it until the 12th in Illinois and the 15th in Missouri.

I've got this weekend then it's over. Got the afternoon off from work but feeling lazy. Might sneak yet. Otherwise I will be hitting it hard this weekend. Had good deer movement and seeing alot of bucks. Just not the big boys.
Well I better get going. Can't kill anything on the puter except time.
Good luck to anyone still hunting!!

Sat out in mid-teens temps for almost three hours last night, and drilled a big ol' doe right at 5 p.m.
Saw two yearlings at around 2:30, and then a spike a few minutes later... and then two mature does and one of their yearlings came out around 4:30 of the fence row exactly to the north (strong north winds, so it was perfect). They came out at a fast trot running right at me (I was about 200 yards away in the middle of five trees by themselves in a cut corn field; yep -- no wind block and a stiff wind in mid-teen weather makes for a COLD sit!).
They finally made it up to a bush about 60 yards away that offered a bit of cover between us, and I stood and tried to simulataneously raisemy seat... This is one of my very oldest stands, and in the brutal conditions the seat squeaked slightly as I was raising it. The sound put them on instant alert, and it took a full half-hour for them toslink around, sneak into a fencerow, look at a barking dog every time he barked behind me, and finally come back out and start off on their original past taking them past my stand.
I'd like to get two more in the freezer in the next two weeks, but would honestly be happy with one more at this point...
Good luck to everyone else out there!
