Nice job on the 5 great bucks, poser.
But the point is that you don't come on here as a newbie with guys who have 40 to 50 years hunting experience and call their experiences or them "horse crap". Those guys have almost twice as many of those bucks as you do. Some maybe 3 times. Stick around and learn. That's why we're here. |

RE: Snort wheeze
Live2hunt,
We were in the right place at the right time. A combination of a hot doe, high winds (which blew her scent for miles), and alot of competion is what got all the bucks in this particular spot raging. Doubt I'll ever experience a hunt like that again! |
RE: Snort wheeze
hmmm, almost a tenth as good as watching bucks spar but not quite.
IMO, USAF is right about how there are "pretenders" here. That is because there are pretenders everywhere. The underlying insinuation that veterans like GrehH, davidmil, and Charlie Pmight be one of those is deserving of the ensuing exit hole. I want to be included in the record as a non-pretender. I do not pretend to know anything. In fact, I disclose to know next to nothing and hope to learn something from all you guys so I can kill another buck before you kill eachother. ;):D If you do howeverand the match-up was GregH -vs- USAF, I'd pick USAFgiven it was "fist to fist" simply because he has that "in shape and could probably take a baseball bat to the chin" military look. But... "arrow to arrow" I'd have to go with my neighbor, mister big buck slaughterer man from 30 miles south, simply 'cause, well look at his bucks! BETS ANYONE? |
RE: Snort wheeze
Childers............those F&S clips are not accurate to what a true snort wheeze is or what it means........go watch this clip it shows what a true snort wheeze sounds like and the response it gets from a 1.5 year old buck and also what a real snort wheeze sounds like from a 4.5 year old:

RE: Snort wheeze
ORIGINAL: davidmil And what do you call really good luck? I mean, really... give us some numbers and percentages of deer seen, killed, called etc. I see so many people come up with this crap and they've killed a total of a handful of deer or only hunted a couple years and they want to tell everyone "this is gospel". Give us some facts.... like I've shot 84 deer with a bow and never heard it once. And childers, forgive me for being skeptical... but you're 16 or 17 years old. And how many times have you really heard it. I'm not calling anyone a liar, but I sure do think a couple weekends of huntingdoesn't really tell us a lot about snort wheeze experience. Oh heck, I'll call 'em like I see 'em... "Bull Hockey". I think there is so much "disinformation" being spread around the internet by people that just want to hear themselves talk. I have lost count of how many deer I have killed with a bow. I have heard the snort weeze in the wild probably only 4 times. For the first time ever last season, I tried it out of desperation on a buck that was going away at 65-70 yards after ignoring my grunts. He turned on a dime and came right to my treeand I shot him at 5 yards. I have since tried the call on two other bucks, one that came in but did not get a shot (three weeks after killing that one), and another that looked but kept on going. This is the buck and yes, it is on video. You better believe I will use the call (actually just make the sound with my mouth) on mature bucks that don't want to come in to a grunt call. |

RE: Snort wheeze
Wow, and its not even off season yet!
I think the Snort Wheeze is pretty well documented, its on the TV shows, I have it on home video, others on this thread have it on video and have even killed bucksusing it on video. I heard it this year right befor 2 bucks started fighting. I heard it last year when a young 8 pt that had been chasing a doe around that was not ready to stand for him, stopped right under my stand and cut loose with a Snort Wheeze. More of an act of being Disgusted! They dont go through the woods grunting snorting and wheezing ever step and calls are a tool to be used at certain times and not magic. Deer seam to me more vocal in areas where the buck to doe ratio is more even so location (being at the right place at the right time) plays a much bigger roll than how many seasons you have spent in the woods on how many times you get to hear a Snort Wheeze! |
RE: Snort wheeze
I had an small 8 and a 4 point going at it this year, the 8 snort/wheezed at the smaller buck just before he started to beat the living crap out of him!!!!!! Very good show I had that morning for about 20 minutes, kinda cool!:)

RE: Snort wheeze
20+ yrs of hunting, and I can honestly say that I have never heard a snort wheeze(that I know of). I certainly am not an expert on killing big deer or on calling, but I have spent alot of time in the woods and taken alot of deer. My gut feeling is this...ANY and ALL calls will work at the right time, on the right deer. And vice versa. I've seen bucks (that you would have thought would have come in) tuck their tails and run away at a grunt call. I've actually rattled a few bucks in as well, one that definitely charged in 2 times to the horns, pissed and ready to fight. Doe bleats...my favorite call for most of the season. I have actually heard a buck roar one time in my life about 10yrs ago...though at the time I had no idea what that buck was doing. Since that call came out, I realize what it was - now.I would venture to say though, someof these types of calls are much more rare (snort wheeze, roar)...as experience has proven. Nice deer USAF, congrats....but give Greg H his due. Davidmil has earned his keep as well. I think alot of these calls also have to do with WHERE you are hunting. In areas that have more mature deer, better buck to doe pops, you probably get more vocals and response to calls. I'm more like GMMAT....our does fight over the bucks! LOL, not much need for them to display dominance.
