big rockpile, after reading you post I can't help but wonder, Was it worth it to make 'his' business, 'your' business?
|
RE: Would you turn him in?
Well if he is braggin to you about it, he made it your business. I am glad not everyone looks the other way, we wouldn't have anything to hunt.

RE: Would you turn him in?
As a friend I would not turn him in. I would however warn him of the pitfalls of his actions. If he is breaking the Law that much he will get caught. Game violations anymore are no laughing matter. He could wind up losing his hunting rights for several years. For a Hunter that is severe punishment. Just imagine 5 years not able to Hunt Turkeys, Whitetails or any other Big Game. Not Funny!!

RE: Would you turn him in?
I see, big rock. Sounds like things were heading south anyway...
If a 'friend' starts bragging sbout beating his wife, or selling meth outside of a gradeschool that's one thing, but I just cant see it being worthgetting into a he said-he said barnstormer, having dogs killed(from earlier post) or risking harm to my family by turning a guyfor fracturing a few game laws in an area no where near where I may hunt. Call me wierd, but it still aint my business. |
RE: Would you turn him in?
I've heard a few folks say, "Yep I got 6 bucks this year. All nice-uns." Should I turn them in? Um, no. Wouldn't waste the time 'cause I know they are lieing.
Any chance the guy you know who got "9 bucks" is full of mud? |
RE: Would you turn him in?
The man don't even eat venison (main culprit). That's the REALLY sad part. He kills them and gives the deer, whole, to his cohort and the rumor there is.....he's selling the venison to some local mexicans (who live in an adjacent trailer park).
Now.....just let me say.....the people that I have discussed this with ARE established friends of SOB poacher #2.......and they're just completely fed up with it. Yes......they KNOW how many. They've been there when many of them have been skinned and butchered. This person is a 'friend' only in the definition that we hang out at the bow shop and shoot, occasionally, together. But to the people I'm talking about......they would be VERY surprised that this is getting out. But these guys "friends" are completely and utterly tired of being put on the spot by these guys' antics. NOBODY wants to be associated with this type. Me included. I'll keep my distance.....BUT....I won't mince words if they wonder why I won't shoot with them anymore. I'll tell 'em, straight up.....I don't hang out with poaching SOB's. |
RE: Would you turn him in?
ORIGINAL: tsoc The poachers that Jeff described do not seem to be the low life unsavory ones that I am more familiar with. I don't know the statistics but I would bet most murders and extreme violence interactions are accomplished by friends/family. The scenario about the dogs is exactly my point. What a pointless thing to have happend. GMMAT, I think you've chosen wisely. Tom |
RE: Would you turn him in?
yeah. I prolly would let it go once or twice, but i would tell someone who i know would turn him in or drop an Annonymous letter off at the Game Comission Building.
Ryan. |
RE: Would you turn him in?
I must say, though....(and remember...I've only been deer hunting for a little less than 3 seasons).....I'm VERY surprised at the numbers in the poll.
|
RE: Would you turn him in?
Dang GMMAT, ya keep addin stuff to the equation. What are you going to tell us next, he beats his grandmother?:D
Each person has a line as to when turning a guy in(friend , or aquaintance) becomes WORTH IT. Y'all be safe, I'm going goose hunting.:D |
RE: Would you turn him in?
It's funny but I bet that the majority of the 56% of us that voted no to the hypothetical would vote yes to the specific.
GMMAT should post names and addresses here and make the poll question even less hypothetical. |
RE: Would you turn him in?
Statjunk,
I did not mean to imply in any way that someone's economic standing had any thing to do with this conversation. You chose to interpret it in a way that it was not intended. There are as many lowlifes with money as there are without. |
RE: Would you turn him in?
bep.....
The numbers got WORSE (more "no" answers)as the entire scenario unfolded. THAT was interesting, too;) |

RE: Would you turn him in?
The numbers on the poll probably have more to do with most don't read 10 pages of posts before they vote. They probably read the original and a few posts after it then voted what they thought. I know I didn't read every post in this thread and didn't know there was an updated version either.
Say what you want to say right from the get go and this type of stuff doesn't happen;) Paul |

and sometimes people vote the opposite, just to keep things interesting....and then theminority becomes the majority and they are stuck in the avalanche...

So what are you going to do if this is a true story what have you decided?
|
RE: Would you turn him in?
No, I would not turn him in. However, our hunting relationship would be over.
|
RE: Would you turn him in?
ORIGINAL: GMMAT THIS SEASON ALONE......one has taken NINE (limit is TWO). Now....does THIS change your mind(s)? |
RE: Would you turn him in?
First of if I were hunting to put food on the table I wouldn't be bragging about takin' 9 bucks and second you don't go out just lookin for bucks either. You're going to drop whatever crosses your path, does, rabbits, squirrels in your backyard etc... If this guys is shooting and selling them and makin' a profit off of it turn his butt over to the IRS they come knockin' quicker than the game warden.:DOn a serious note though I would make a call to the Warden, why then should you know what he is doing a let him get away with it. Make it annonymous!!!
|
RE: Would you turn him in?
I met a guy at this State Park whereI hunt and we became hunting buds, not real "friends" so to speak. Anyway, last year he took 2 bucks, the limit isone. I mentioned to him that he really should kill just 1 buck, like the lawprovides. I didn't want to turn him, I don't really even "know" this guy that well.He continued talking about taking a second buck this season as well.[:@]Thatwas it, he's just not getting it! When he calls, I don't even pick up the phone. He'll get the picture sooner or later.I prefer not to keep company with people like this.
|
RE: Would you turn him in?
Actually I have been in this situation. And no , I didnot turn him in. Why--guess because he was afriend, plus he was my access to some hunting land. I since have quit hunting with him and wont again .I was told by others that the game warden was watching him ,but never could catch him and I do know that he has been kicked off alot of the places he used to hunt.

RE: Would you turn him in?
This post really shows how warped the world is. People are so lost in the details, they forget about a person, or thier lives or thier jobs. People have so much extra time on thier hands, they have time to think what they would do in this situation. Some people need to get a life.
|
RE: Would you turn him in?
He would get one warning and if that personcontinue to violate the game laws I would turn him in and not give it a second thought. A mistake is one thing, but when someoneintentionally breaks thegame law time after time to score he isn't a hunter or sportsman. The actions of this kind of turd is a negative reflection on those who obey the game laws andinvest time and moneyto harvest game. [:@]
|
RE: Would you turn him in?
ORIGINAL: Arthur P Depending on how severe the violation is. I'd probably give him a good talking to the first time I found out about it if it was something like not checking in. If he kept doing it repeatedly or was poaching, then he's no friend of mine. Yes. I'd turn him in. |
RE: Would you turn him in?
some of my "friends" were riding around shooting deer at night and i didn't call them in BUT i know one of the wardens and told him a road they should set up on and one of them got caught. anything other then shooting deer at night im not going to say anything. why get a friendin trouble just because they dont tag a deer.
|
RE: Would you turn him in?
ORIGINAL: SevenMag sorry man, i couldn't turn in a friend... my friends are way more important to me than any deer will ever be... if the deer are more important than your friends i seriously think you need to reevaluate your priorities... that said, i'd give him a serious talkin to, no doubt, i don't want him gettin busted or breakin the law... fortunately I know none of my friends would do that anyway, but if they did I surely wouldn't be the one callin up the GW... i play by the rules and i expect my friends to also, but i'm not gonna run outta the woods yellin "cheater cheater" the Ref either... turning in a friend violates the Man Laws somehow doesn't it??? kinda like tellin his g/f he's gettin some on the side... Wow couldnt have said it any better myself!! |
RE: Would you turn him in?
Nope I wouldnt turn my friend (buddy) in...
|
RE: Would you turn him in?
For me it would really depend on the entire situation. I know guys that shoot more than their share, always have and probably always will. I don't condone it or hunt with them...but if they want to play that game and take the chance, that is their deal. I don't really consider them "friends" in the true aspect of a friend....but at the same time I have way more important things to worry about than turning them in. If you do decide to turn them in....you had better do it anonymously. Some people are nuts, and dealing with that certainly isn't worth it - not over a deer.
Don't get me wrong...some folks certainly need to have the law called on them and they deserve it. Heck, some folks deserve the slammer for a long time for the crap they do....and some folks, well IMO its just not that big ofa deal - not big enough for me to get involved. The guys I know....they don't road hunt, they don't trespass (only hunt their own land), and they don't hunt out of season. They just don't tag all their deer, and usually shoot an extra buck or two each season. I have called the law before a few times....just pick your battles wisely is all I'm sayin. |
