RE: walmart is it good for hunters
I have to say I don't buy much from Walmart but here where I live there is a big food chain that fought Walmart from comeing in and Walmart finally won and built a super store. Fun how the other stores prices finally fell andWalmart has been giving money to all kinds of needs for the community!!!! Walt

RE: walmart is it good for hunters
I'll buy things like handwarmers, fieldpoints or cat whiskers--that's about the only things I actually use that they carry.I buy alot of fishing lures and other tackle there, though

RE: walmart is it good for hunters
Walmart is a store. It isn't good, it isn't evil. Sometimes I shop there, sometimes I don't.
|
RE: walmart is it good for hunters
Walmart is about the same for hunters as it is for handymen and pet owners. It is convenient and usually inexpensive for the standard stuff, but if you want something specific or high end, you have to move on toa specialty store.
|
RE: walmart is it good for hunters
In my area we have 2 sporting goods stores and a Walmart, Walmarts cheaper on much of thier stuff but one thing to keep in mind is Walmarts not gonna service your bow, order parts for your gun, or carry anything you need to fix any of your gear. You get the product you pay for and nothing else.

What's a walmart?
|
RE: walmart is it good for hunters
Well for whatever reason our local Walmarts are really cutting back on what they carry for Hunting Supplies. Granted the prices are good but the selection is gettng less and less for Hunting Items.

RE: walmart is it good for hunters
I buy some stuff from Wal-Mart. I don't think it is a lot cheaper than anywhere else. They carry name brand stuff, same as you buy anywhere else. I've bought good quality clothes and calls and scent eliminating products and it's the same stuff you see anywhere else.
I do have a couple of problems though. You better get your stuff early because when they run out of the initial stocking they don't reorder. I find this especially true on scent elimination products. Also I shoot a .45 cal muzzleloader and they don't carry any .45 cal stuff. The local archery/sporting goods shop usually has everything in stock but it is a little higher, not much. The advantage with Wal-Mart is that they are open at all hours which makes it a little more convenient. |

RE: walmart is it good for hunters
The walmart near me blows for hunting and sporting type stuff. Used to be pretty decent, then they turned it into a Superwalmart. The only difference I saw was it became super sucky[:'(]. It caters to women now, not men. The automotive and sporting sections got cut in half they hardly carry anything you would want. No guns, no archery stuff and mostly cheap optics and hunting junk. A few things that are useful, but not much.
As far as Walmart being bad or evil, ya, right. The only people I hear bashing walmart are the unions. And they only reason they are pissed is because they are not getting any money from them. Walmart as a corporation employs a lot of people and the unions would LOVE to see part of that money. Everything I see them bash walmart for is nothing that doesn't happen at any of the other big chain stores that have unions. I know plenty of people that work at walmart and the only ones I see bitch are the ones that really don't want to work. They would complain no matter where they were. Yet I meet LOTS of unhappy people that work at meijers and they have a union (the one that is usually bashing walmart). Paul |
RE: walmart is it good for hunters
Walmart is really hit and miss. I do not make special trips to Walmart usually to buy hunting products. They are into selling mass volumes of junk really fast. People come into my shop and try to compare whatI sell to what Walmart sells, it's a joke.
|
RE: walmart is it good for hunters
I don't deal with Walmart because of it being tied in with the Southern Mafia same as some other companies in the area.

RE: walmart is it good for hunters
Seriously... If you're a serious, die-hard bowhunter - how much of your gear can you REALLY buy at Wallyworld?
I mean, I get a bucketload of chemical handwarmers there, maybe some socks and scent spray - but that's it. Everything else just far too specialized, and isn't available at walmart, even if I WANTED to buy it there. |
RE: walmart is it good for hunters
Hothands, cheap early season gloves(because I'll losem or throwem away), deer tags and license.....thats about it.

I don't shop at Walmart,my wife and I do some shopping at Sams Club. The reasons for me not shopping at Walmart are two fold, the specialized or specific nature of what I am looking for and my desire to endorse the small independantly owned archery shops.

RE: walmart is it good for hunters
PreacherToney- How can you post Christian bible quotes and then make fun of someone who just may not have as much on the ball as you do? I thought Christians were to treat everyone with God's love and by His word???
Seems like you forgot the simple standards of Christianity! Christianityoverflows withhypocracy- I just left a "Christian" church after 3 years of the same old hypocracy stuff from their mouths. Either youiz or you ain't!!! As for Walmart, they stopped selling firearms and ammo here in NJ because they too, fell victim to the political garbage from the anti's and liberal media twisting about how bad guns are. Most hunters in NJ have quit visiting WallyWorld!!! They do sell 50lb bags of corn pretty cheap though! |
RE: walmart is it good for hunters
lowest price gets my money. plain and simple.

RE: walmart is it good for hunters
The selection at the Walmart's I've been to, SUCKS!!![:'(]What a joke and a waste of time.I'll never go into one again!![:'(][:'(]I get most of my hunting gear at Cabela's, where they have everything.;):D

RE: walmart is it good for hunters
cabelas and gander for most stuff, did purchase 3 ladder stands at wally world this season.

RE: walmart is it good for hunters
Wal-Mart not selling guns has nothing to do with "antis". It has to do with states that allow lawsuits to be filed against companies who sell guns. They sell plenty of guns in Oklahoma. They actually have a pretty good selection of hunting accessories here at the local Wal-Mart. It's the same name brand stuff you get anywhere else. They don't have much of a selection of archery supplies, though. What they do have is good stuff, though.

RE: walmart is it good for hunters
I prefer not to shop at WalMart for anything, for one reason. Just about 50% of every item in every department that they sell is cheap, junk IMO. I've bought Moultrie Deer cams, meat grinders, bow hangers, etc that broke right out of the box. I bought a fleece pullover that when I put my hands in the pockets, I found they were not sewed up at all. I bought a 25 YR. warranty rake that broke within 5 minutes if me using it, fishing reels that wouldn't cast, flashlights that flicker on and off on their own, flashlight bulbs that don't burn at all. I seriously have to take back about 25% of things because they broke or didn't work right out of the box.
If Walmart can find a cheaper way of having something made, they will do it regardless if it makes the product a bad product. Some of these things shouldn't even be on the shelf. I've learned my lesson, If I want something to last I do not buy it from Walmart. And in many cases, I can find a product that is built better, and the same or less money elsewhere. And I know Walmart provides a lot of jobs, some good jobs, some not so good. I know several people that work there and I'm glad they got a job, but I just wish their quality was better. If it was I would have no problem shopping there. |

PreacherToney- How can you post Christian bible quotes and then make fun of someone who just may not have as much on the ball as you do? I think publically suggesting the guy "may not have as much on the ball" is a far worse slam. Steve |

Walmart does a great job of executing their grand plan.. come into small and medium sized communitity's and deliver low cost goods (with their massive buying power) that people cannot resist.. bankruptingmost small businesses in the area that sell competing products.. just like the Home Depots of the world. Personally I can't stand going into Walmarts, they are just a giant human zoo.. but to each his own.
