Let's say you shoot an elk....

I saw an Emu running wild once........
(heard they're good eating.)
You want to talk about a surreal experience, try to wrap your mind around that coming at you when you are expecting a whitetail. [:-]

It doesn't have to be isolated to elk. He's giving elk as an example because obviously, FL has no Elk population...
In PA, like Greg stated in MO, if there is no open season, it's implied that the seasons are closed. No animal can be shot without an outlined season, HOWEVER,
Apparently there is a small pop of wild hogs now establishing themself. There is no open season on wild hog and it's not illegal to shoot them.
I understand that although the PGC claims there are no mountain lions in PA, there is a $3000 fine if you shoot one. Go figure. [&:]

And you live in FL.
OK....it could happen. You see an elk.....and you shoot it (or any animal not indigenous to your state).
I wanna know.....if there is no season on that animal in your state.....is it legal? Or....is it illegal BECAUSE there is no season on this species???
Merry Christmas!

Someone was talking about shooting monkeys in FL....stating they could kill them.....because there wasn't a game law stating they couldn't. I figured there would have to be a game law stating they COULD.
So...I asked the question.
Now....who knows the answer? Did you know the answer (In your state) before this post? What if I saw an elk, while deer hunting in NC? They ARE here.

You think to much in my opinion!
We have timberwolves here in Minnesota and there's no season on them. If I were to shoot one i'd be in trouble if I got caught.

Another Michigander chiming in here....... If a species is native to the US and can travel and relocate themselves, seasons and licensing shall and will be outlined.
Jeff, if you see an elk or mule deer in Florida, it is illegal to shoot. If you see a Gemsbok, fallow deer, or any other transported foreign game, it is legal to shoot.

So....is the consensus.....that it's illegal to hunt a species....if the game laws of the state doesn't have a defined season for that species?
Heck I thought it was an interesting scenario. We have elk here in NC.....but have no elk season. I'm betting there are many who would take the approach that since there are no regulations concerning those animals......that they are able to be killed, legally.
Whether that's right or wrong....Im betting there are those who believe that.

When I run into these situations..."when in doubt"...I usually shoot first and ask questions later. I set my F stop as wide open as possible and try to keep the shutter speed above 1/60 of a second. I dump as many frames as possible. The idea there...maybe one frame will be the perfect shot! It seems to work!
Hope that helps...
