Another "Guess the Score"
 

As a reminder to everyone that it's time to "pony up" ('tis the season!) on some of our charity pledges......I'll donate $10 to the charity of the correct guesser's choice.....for the person who comes closest to guessing this buck's gross score.

I'm picking them up today.....and I'll post the score I come up with, tongiht.

well...my guess may be a tad lower than I would have guessed after seeing those other pics. I'll say 97 2/8 gross now...hopefully this can still count as my guess!

I agree though, still a great buck and as I think I've read before, you had been after this guy for a while and had some preseason trail cam pics.

First and foremost it is an excellent buck for your area,and one to be proud of! If scoring may influence your outlook about it.I wouldn't do it.
Their scores are rarely as high as you believe them to be,unless you live in a great area and have taken many exceptional bucks.

90 2/8 is what I came up with. My estimates were very similar to RJs, but I had the G3s as being shorter.

As for it being "lower" than what you expected, who cares? He is the buck you were after and you got him. Chasing after a single animal and actually taking it is quite an accomplishment I don't care how big it is.

I guesstimated 93". The scores you are getting isdue to not much tine or beam length, but it has decent mass.
FWIW, Over the yearsI've gotten to the point where I don't put much into "score" anymore. I've seen plenty of mature deer that might not score as well as a longer but more spindly tined younger buck, but I'll take the lesser "score" mature heavy-horned deer any day. You've gota nice lookingdeer there, regardless of the score. Congrats again.

Greg. My gambrel has a scale. To be perfectly honest....he was "just" under 200#'s (a hair). If I had to round up or down to 195 or 200....I'd have gone to 200.....and he bled a liitle, too. Sue me! (j/k;)) I went with 200.

I picked 'em up a short bit ago. MB's are 17-1/4" and 17". Inside spread is 16". I didn't go any further.;)

While I was the taxi.....I saw this deer. I made a thread the other day .....touting what farmcntry is doing with the youth, here. This is the deer that a youth named Mike Mabe took......and his guide was Farmcntry (On a Youth Outdoors Connection hunt). This deer won first place in a local contest.....and our taxidermist is doing the mount. It just arrived, there, yesterday.

What a GREAT deer!

Congrats to the hunter and the guide! (and yes...I can hijack my own thread)!:D

You are talking field dressed right? I can't tell because I can't see the whole deer.

I weigh all of my deer, field dressed, and it takes a heck of a deer to reach 200. I can't tell you how many times I hear someone say they killed a 200 lb deer, then when I see it, it's a solid 140 -160 lb deer. They're not as big as people think.

No way, Greg. You know I'm new at this. I shot him .7mi. from my house. Went to get him with the ATV and trailer......only had to drag him about 300 yds.

I weighed him "on the hoof" weight.....took him down.....field dressed him....and hung him back up. A deer this BODY size is sorta rare around my immediate area....and I wanted to see what he weighed on the hoof.

No way he weighs anywhere NEAR that, field dressed. I READILY admit that....and sorry if I was misleading.

That's what I thought but I wasn't sure. Around here, everybody mostly field dresses them in the woods then takes them home and weighs them. But when I post on here I say field dressed when I tell the weight so there is no confusion. The larger bucks around here field dress 205 to 230 (some even larger) and they're hard enough to get out at that weight much less "on the hoof" or live weight![:-]

I'm finding that out, Greg (field dressed weight is what most report). But....I think they take MUCH better photos "whole". it's also convenient for me to weigh them and take them down and then field dress them (my situation). I shot 3 bucks, last year.....and they were all three within 5 pounds of each other (LIVE weight......well.....almost;)).
