im gonna go for 99 and 7/8...

I Figure that way you wont have to get him officially scored haha.

Dosent matter how big its the story of the hunt that matters most.

Ryan.

I'll finish measuring it when I get home, this evening. MY bet is.....anyone around 100 has a great guess. I don't think he'll go much over it.....if he does. Doesn't matter to me......he's my most prized bowhunting trophy, either way;)

No way, Greg. You know I'm new at this. I shot him .7mi. from my house. Went to get him with the ATV and trailer......only had to drag him about 300 yds.

I weighed him "on the hoof" weight.....took him down.....field dressed him....and hung him back up. A deer this BODY size is sorta rare around my immediate area....and I wanted to see what he weighed on the hoof.

No way he weighs anywhere NEAR that, field dressed. I READILY admit that....and sorry if I was misleading.
That makes more sense! He didn't look like a 200lb deer field dressed. It seems everyone is not weighing them field dressed anymore. I don't get it!

Nice buck. I think it may make just under 100" but it is always hard to tell unless you have the antlers in your hands to examine yourself. bigger than any buck Ive shot with a bow yet. I have missed some big uns though.

Nice buck Jeff. I was giving him to much credit in the mass dept. From the pick I was thinking better than 5 inch bases.

Rob/PA Bowyer 12-21-2007 09:01 PM

RE: Another "Guess the Score"

I was thinking that too MOHO.

And to think, that's indicitive to the herd. That deer is at least a 4.5 year old isn't it. It shows antler depletion probably due to the over poplulation or competition for nutrition. Last years buck was probably 3.5 year old right Jeff and that buck went 106"? Clean out a bunch of those does and I'd bet the bucks can pack on some more weight and antler size with the added nutrition.

Rob....I hope you're right. We'll keep working on doe numbers here. Looking forward to your help, next season;).

Thanks to all who guessed. Aaron....PM me a note with your charity choice......or let me know if you don't know one. I know a great oe that's local.;)

When are you going to have them officially scored by the NC club?

They have to net out over 100 for your states record book?

Be sure to let us know when you get them scored....

I had all your tine lengths bascially spot on..... I was off on your MB's, mass measurements and the inside spread.

I gave you 15 inch beams, a 14 inch inside spread and 24 total inches of mass.

Funny I can guess big bucks within 2-3 inches most every time but struggle with your southern deer :D;)

GMMAT 12-22-2007 06:06 AM

RE: Another "Guess the Score"

I have no idea of whether it's gross or net for the NCBA....OR whether I'll get it scored or not. You see......it REALLY isn't that big of a deal, Scott.

Yeah it is funny.:):D Every deer I post up here....you miss by 15 inches or so.

I told Lisa there would be one person to question my scoring. I nailed that AND who it would be.

Merry Christmas

I hope you are not accusing me of questioning your scoring.... I stated where my guesstimations were not the same as your measurements....

Stop being so paranoid.... Everyone is not out to get you like you think. Stop trying to make an episode out over little things you "think" are going on..... Especially on this one...

Ihave next to no experience scoring smaller racks.... My inexperience shows by being off on your deer.

Have a great Christmas.

Call what you want.... No matter what I would have posted you would have taken itthe way you wanted to because you already had your mind made up....

I have never questioned a deers score on the open forum (like you have)... I have no reason to I could care less what your deer scores.... Honestly, really... I dont care.

On a side note I have been working on a post / journal entry on scoring a rack... Perhaps you can accuse me of making it over your deers score as well? It will be up sometime this weekend. I have all the photos taken already, I just need to do the write up.

So, remember thatPM I sent you the other day? Basically, congrats you just made my first ever "ignore". Not worth the aggravation. I have better things to do than bicker with you. Cheers!

RE: Another "Guess the Score"

I say this objectively with no intent to dimish Jeff's buck.I am surprised that the scoring is as high as it is.I would have guessed in the 90 inch range.
The bottom line is that it really doesn't matter, the excitement of the hunt and the effort that went into it and the satisfaction afterwords are all that matter!
I have said a number of times you really can't appreciate a rack unless you are either holding it or observing it very closely.

mobow 12-22-2007 06:56 AM

RE: Another "Guess the Score"

Guys, it's really difficult to score a rack via picture on a computer. Monitors are different, colors aren't the same....sometimes the rack is "stretched" or "shrunk", depending on the monitor.

I really think Scott was just asking questions to educate himself, I don't think he was questioning the score, just trying to learn.

I intended for this thread to be about a "for-fun" way to give some money to a charity.

That's it. Lisa and I scored the rack. It is what it is. I'll never post one in the forums, again (Guess this score). I see where it goes (with mine). I make no money or recieve NO accolades....if it were 120" or 90". It si what it is.

Peace. Merry Christmas.

Sorry man, I didn't question your score, just the weight.

Hint: If you pack them with sand ( like fish), you can get them to weigh whatever you want.

Now I'll question your score. Your mass measurements seem a bit high, no more than an inch per side though.

Did you use the smallest measurement at the correct place for taking the measurement?

Go check with Lisa and get back to me.[8D]

Hey Jeff, I really like that buck. That is a great rack especially for North Carolina. I know in my area most people do not see deer like that. I am glad you got it and would be proud of a deer like that as well. I would have guessed 110" on it.
