RE: Corn or no corn
OK corn as a steady diet for deer is NOTthe best. If your going to feed it must be a balanced diet. mix some of them grains in to there diet. Same food as the goat feed from your local feed mill. What it comes down to is commmon sense. Do what feels right to you as a individual I get sick and tired of people who complain and do nothing. If you feel like you should do something ,for God sake do it and dont worry what anyone thinks about it. Pump them

RE: Corn or no corn
Thanks for your response. It seems as if one response thinks that my statements fall under " Complaining". This, however, is not the case. The individuals feeding the corn asked me to see what I could find out if feeding corn would benefit the deer. I, nor the others, do not want to do the deer any harm...We just wanted to know what others thought of this practice. Again, thanks for your input. Will try to mix the corn with other food...My readings included that of Mr. Dana Johnson, game biologist from Auburn University and others (stated:do not feed corn to deer)Thanks again....

RE: Corn or no corn
Greetings Bob. Hope you and Nancy are doing ok. Give her our love.
Ok Im not going to touch the subject of Feeder vs Food plot and I hope no one else does. Thats been beat to death.
The question I would like to ask is "Just how bad is it in everyones state?" I have been on our state parks and wildlife website and ask about it. I got a reply that they are not finding any here yet.
Also have any of you actually seen one with this and how was it acting or what made you think it had CWD?
Hope they find somthing to treat this soon.
Rick
Lifes not about knowing the answers, its about asking the questions.

OOOPS.... Sorry about bringing up this subject. I guess it has been beat to death. Being new to this site, I did not know this subject had been discussed. I suppose I need to check before posting... Again, sorry.

RE: Corn or no corn
Corn is LOW in protein. Is is
high in carbohydrates. It is
a great attractant, but a lot
like candy. Not high in nutrition,
but high in calories and will help fatten
deer if they can get enough of it,
hence the heavy weights on corn field
deer. It is not an ideal single source
food and from what I hear deer will
not use it that way, but will always
seek out browse as well.
Millions of pounds are fed to deer
here in Texas each year, mostly as
an attractor to hunting areas. And
we still don't kill enough deer each
year with 5 tags on each liscense.
It may seem odd to hunters in other
areas, but around here 95 out of 100
hunters use it as some part of their method.
A lot of the managed properties are
now using high protein/high mineral
feed in their strategies for growing
heavy body and heavy antler deer.
Some are also using food plots.
Mostly lablab.
As far as big bucks go it mainly
helps in that it may keep the does
moving through your hunting area and then
the bucks come in looking for the does.
Not a whole lot of mature bucks are
taken with their head in a corn bucket.

Jakehead you don't have to be sorry. That what we are here for. If someone is sick of the subject they can keep their mouse elsewhere. The is the great thing about computers. I think it is a great subject and research and science changes all the time. Who knows what new things will be brought out in discussions. I learned a couple of knew things myself this time around.
I believe the subject is different from state to state. Deer corn also pays the bills for many farmers as well as giving the deer something to eat.
Doctorxring I like your post. Good points.
