It is a test I am sure you will pass. It is hard to turn down the farmerwho has given you the permission to hunt this great land. I would hope he understands the position he has asked you to put yourself in and not hold it against you if you opt to do the legal "RIGHT THING"

A 1200 acre farm and the yield is cut from 80 to 40 Bu. per acre because of deer? Are you planning on shooting a couple of hundred? Those numbers don't sound right.

Have the farmer present this argument to the person he leases the land from:
1) The deer are ruining my crops
2) If my crops don't yield profits I will be unable to continue paying you
3) If the crops fail, chances are noone else will want to lease this property
4) If I could have 1-2 hunters take maybe 6-8 deer off this property every year, then my crop yields will increase and I will be able to continue leasing your property
5) Oh yeah, the hunters will hunt with bow and arrow only, and will all come talk to you face to face, they are great guys, ethical and eat whatever they shoot
Sound good?

I figured from your description it was the old American Cyanamid research farm. I used to work there in the summer of '91 as a college intern. That place has been filthy with deer for decades now. You can NOT and will NOT win the battle with the deer there. Just too many. It wouldn't matter if you hunted with a machine gun. Whatever you killed there more would come over the tracks from Mercer Park. A great place to hunt, but you wouldn't put a dent in the population. Back in the day people used to sneek on and hunt, even the employees. There's probably more people hunting it than you know.
