It's Friday....Anybody got "that feeling"?

No! Dang deer just ain't moving and it really stinks. I've talked to the paper carrier and he's gone from seeing in the 100's to just 10 - 12 during his run. What is going on?
What really stinks is that tomorrow I have an 8 y/o hunting with me and brknarrow (Frank) is coming to hunt with me with is 15 y/o grandson.
Wish us luck because we'll need it. Dang deer just ain't cooperating.

It's the second shotgun season here. I went out yesterday and saw a doe and a six pointer (not together). Out of the 30+ people gun hunting out there on the propertyonly two small bucks were taken. Most people didn't even see any deer. The guys at the park office were amazed I passed on the deer I saw.
Ifeel really, reallyackward with a shotgun in the treestand. [:-]
Good luck to you guys this weekend!

I don't have a buck tag in PA right now, but I have a great feeling about taking my first archery deer during rifle season tomorrow evening. We are supposed to have a NNE wind, only the 3rd time I've seen this in 3 years and exactly the wind I need to hunt my largest plot that currently has the most feeding activity. I've only been able to hunt thisplot 2x over the last few years and everytime had super close encounters.Just last week during the holiday I glassed it half an hour before dark and counted over 10 deer in this plot including a nice 120"+ buck chasing does all over the place. It wouldn't surprise me to see a slammer buckin there, but I guess I'll have to shoot him with the camera instead.
This is where I will be sitting................

As for NY on Sunday who knows. I have a buck tag butthe deer have been pressured a bit more there and the woods are a LOT bigger making them much more unpredictable. We will see, I'm not 100% convinced I will take the bow out there though.....I may end up bringing the bangstick.

I've got a little twinge......I'm not going to predict tomorrow per se, but I don't think I'm finished this year. BUT, it could very well be tomorrow. I'm headed down to jmbuckhunter's this evening, and we're hunting tomorrow morning.
The weather is supposed to turn kind of nasty tonight, hopefully it won't be too bad though. The nice thing about where we're hunting tomorrow is the bucks aren't pressured. Our firearms season is over, and muzzleloader season ends Sunday. But where we'll be, no firearms are allowed, so the deer haven't had the orange army in the woods....
I've also been seeing quite a few deer up moving around in the mornings this week...We'll see. I would LOVE to see one, or BOTH of us, shoot nice bucks tomorrow.

I know I've heard the theory that the further south you go the later the rut comes. Do you think the deer arelocked down right now in the peak of the breeding?

No, Matt.....let me explain.
When you think of the rut.....you think of bucks roaming the woods willy-nilly searching for the hot does.
Drive South to NC, now......and we have Does running the woods willy-nilly searching for bucks
.
Honestly....I've never seen a taper off in DOE activity. I betcha I haven't had 12 buck SIGHTINGS all year. I know I've only seen 5 different antlered bucks all year. BUT....I can always count on doe sightings......just not right now! It's weird.

I have the feeling I'm not gonna see a thing. That's shotgun season around here. Been out three times since monday and all I saw was scenery without a touch of brown.
I see more in a two hour bow season hunt then I do in a week of gun season. Gun season is more like a walk in the woods than a hunt and it's best for finding new places to bow hunt next year..
The only thing in my favor is that I have no buck tags so if I see anything it is bound to be a big buck just standing there looking at me. But... You can't shoot anything from home.

Yep, I have a good feeling about tomorrow. There's a front moving in that'll be here Sunday, and the wind prediction is great for my stand. I'll be out there with the crossbow.....
Sounds about like my luck.
It's gun season here in TN, but I've been watching 4-6 does walking the same path every evening. I keep hoping a nice buck will be following them one evening. Come Monday, when bow season opens again, at least one of those does is in real trouble.
