It all boils down to money. If you had the money and the time to buy and manage ground you would be in their shoes. I know that I would.

Of course. People still are not understanding me. All Im saying is, is that the hunter's shooting these deer are not great hunters in my opinion. They displayed one skill, shooting. Nothing else.

as a former resident of texas who had a ranch, its not as easy as they make it look. I garuntee they put their time in on the stand, even if they dont show it. Do you think they would sell many products/hunts/etc if all they showed was the hunter sitting in a blind for a few days before shooting the deer?

The deer can grow surprisingly large antlers on cactus/grass/whatever, rainfall and age is more of a factor than natural food supply.

I dont think the show degrades hunters or hunting, so if someone wants to shoot a deer from 250 yards away, who cares? In Texas, there is no terrain to funnel deer movement. They can, and literally do run anywhere. If you hold out for a 20 - 30 yard shot only, your going to have many many many unproductive days on stand.

Overall, If you dont like what your seeing on tv, change the channel. If you dont change it, and still continue to complain about it, I have no sympathy.

Ok, well so if they put in 5 days of hunting and then kill a buck that goes 180 they still are good hunters? What about the bulk of hunters that put in a lifetime before they kill that kind of buck. You know and everyone else knows that those guys will kill a nice buck before they leave the ranch. They may sit in the stand for a few days, and pass on several 150-170' deer before shooting a 180. Wow, that is really tough on a guy!! I watch them just for the entertainment, could care less if they kill em that way, my point is, it is still a joke, but who cares, it's entertaiment, that's all. I put a grain of salt to their abilities as a hunter, I know that and that is really all that matters.

How is that any different than going to Pike county, IL, or on an outfitted hunt anywhere else in the country?

I just started hunting and I can tell those shows are set-ups and infomercials. I watched my first and last of them in the same week.

ORIGINAL: GMMAT

There are those among us who preach that it's all about the "challenge". Then.....They have to eat their own tarsals.

Me....I just look at it for what it is.......right before I hit the channel "up" button.
I shot a doe with a Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag about 15 years ago, my first deer with a gun actually, at 45 yards. That was the last time I have EVER went into the woods with a gun and the intent of shooting a deer[:'(]. I SWEAR AS GOD IS MY WITNESS, I WILL NEVER LEAVE MY BOW AT THE HOUSE AGAIN!!!!!!

A lot of people would say it isn't.....this country or any other.

Not my place to say. I don't cast stones at how others hunt and cast aspersions on whether or not what they're doing is "challenging"......"hunting vs. shooting", etc..., though That would be hypocritical (were I doing the above described).

I have learned a lot from reading this forum. I didn't even know what "canned" hunting was until I joined here. I still can't figure out why it exists.
