Default What is your Priority

When deer hunting, in what order is your priority
1. Hunt for meat
2. Take a buck
3. Take a trophy buck (must be certain size/score)?

Since I am still pretty new at hunting my priority is
1, 2, then 3

Meat as long as it doesn't have a milk mustache or spots.

3 then 1. If I get 3, chances are that I'll have a lot of 1.

So far this year I have one 3 and two 1s.

Actually my priorities have changed as I've gotten older, as when I was younger my main goal was to put meat in the freezer. I've never been too keyed in on bucks, as my motto was "Can't eat the horns"!!! But the last few year's I've harvested a 6 and 8 point, and must admit that having a nice rack makes it even more special. My first priority is "SAFETY" and to enjoy all that the good lord has given me and to give him thanks. I can sit in my stand all day long and just appreciate all the critters fighting for existence, and just use this time to de-stress:-)))) I don't think that I'd pass us a nice big doe for the possible chance at a buck. I no longer shoot button bucks, little spikers, yearlings, etc. as my motto now is 'Let'm Grow"!!!!I just thank the good lord for this great sport and all the commraderie I feelwith my fellow string propelled weapons fraternity!!!! Hunt often and "BE SAFE"!!!!

Depends if I have a management tag. If I do have a management tag i'll aim on getting a doe first or right away and then try for a P@Ycaliber buck.If I don't have a management tag i'll hold out and try for a P@Y buck and if I haven't gotten anything within the last 2 weeks of the seasoni'll then shoot the first doe I can, I won't shoot a little buck for meat.

I just let 'em fall where they may. I have and have donated a lot of meat, due to No. 1 being a side-effect of herd management. I also have a 3 and a 2.......but my main focus was the herd mgmt.

Every year prior to this......Just shoot a deer. Meat.

This year I decided I was NOT shooting a doe until a buck hit the turf.

Unfortunately my spots don't hold any great bucks yet, butI am working on management to change that. From the beginning of the season to end it will go like this.

1. Hunt for meat
2. Take a buck
3. Take a trophy buck
