bow for defense

OK lets say some one is in your house or tying to break in armed with a gun

you went target shooting and your defense gun be it a rifle ar or shotgun or the most common a handgun you left it down stairs in your study or hunting room where you cleaned it but you bow is in the closet next your bed

i know a bow is just about the worst thing to use for defense in a house against a gun

so do you get your kids bring them in your room with the ow in hand or

go after your gun Down stairs after you get them family safe

would you just use the bow for defense

Wouldn't happen to me, I have got guns hidden everywhere and no kids.

I wouldn't be anywhere near that house...I'd push the button on my car alarm and then call the police...that's their job!

Defending yourself with a bow in your house (against an armed intruder)makes the guy that brought the knife to the gunfight seem like a genius.:D

I always have a gun in my room.

Assuming I didn't, I think the biggest question I would ask myself is: Do I stay here and wait for him or do I take up a little dangerous game hunting?

I know the law would probably disagree with the second, but like my law professor always says, "Shoot til they're dead and then there is only one side of thestory to be told."

Lets all hope this never happens. I would defend my family with anything I could get my hands on including my bow. There is little question what a devestating thing a broad head is.I would certianly hit the panic button on the alarm system and get the cops on the way. If the crook was lucky he wouldnotwake up the little woman. She is a real monster when woke up in the middle of the night. I am sure she would tear him to peices!( I can only hope she doesn't read this post or I will be in for it.)

Once my kids are safe... I grab my bow and turn on the "Sight Light" and the first person/Body I see in my peep gets the shaft!!!!! Shoot first, ask questions as to why this stranger is in my house last!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well i would use the bow and take the most ethical shot at the time. but if i didnt have a good shot i think i would have to pass. haha jk. i wouuld have a gun under the bed or nearby. but unless you hit him in the head

Personally, I'd probably just leave out the back door then call the police.

i'll be the first taker....

if thats all i got, i'll give it what i got if im cornered in my room...Bo and Luke Duke never used no guns :D

but, the chances of that are super unlikely to happen in my house....wont go into details, but anyone stupid enough to break into my house while dad or I is home, well, they will make the stupidest person of the year award IMO...i dont wanna shoot anyone...never wanna be faced with that decision or put into that situation, but i surely aint gunna sit back and end up dead or family dead over some low life...

loaded .45 within arms reach answers this question. big mistake on criminals part! my bow is for hunting, .45 is for protection.

RE: bow for defense

Last resort, yes I would use my bow, and try to surprise the intruder with an arrow vs. him knowing I am defending myself with a bow. I have a P229 Sig Sauer chambered in .357 Sigthat says I won't have to resort to this measure ; ) Problem with this scenario is that you cannot legally shoot someone, even if they are in your house unless your life or a family members is under direct threat. So for you to find this out, you would have to be in relatively close proximity, in my opinion to close to have a bow in my hand.

Yep! If that is the most deadly thing I had within reach, I sure would. Like others have said though, slim chance I'll be caught without a loaded firearm with arms reach while in my house.

Edit: sr77, You don't live in Texas do you? Check out the Castle Doctrine.

If an intruder is in your house, you can assume that he is there to do you or your family harm.

Could you imagine what a Rage would do? I dont even wanna think about it. BTW just get a dog, when the dog barks call the cops. Get everyone into a safe room. Lock the door and wait for help, if all else fails, load the 308 and tell him Im a sniper and the toilet paper is in the bathroom............

RE: bow for defense

It all depends on how long you can hold full draw.;)

Go in a full draw and order him, her or it to lay face down on the ground spread eagled with fingers interlocked behind the back. That way, you can be at full draw again if they try to get up. Any resistance or non-immediate compliance could result in an arrow being sent amiddrifts to the offender.

Wow, I guess I would have no choice but to use it. But I would be yelling I am armed and hope the intruder would leave. And think of all the blood all over your house if you shot him. I wouldn't want to have to clean that mess up[&:]

Not in FL, we have a shoot first law. I plan to abide by it.

This is great stuff guys.

I echo the rest. Bow gets used if nec. Got the gun near the bed so the bad guy doesn't take off when he hears me pump one in the chamber, then it's his own fault for the extra opening he will have.

I have a barrel of dynomite in my basement that can be detonated by remote...when someone breaks into my house i gather everyone up and we hop out the window....once weget outside at a safe distancethe kids count down 3...2...1 and i press little red button on small black remote and........

the boy and mewait for daylightto search for human remains....while HoneyDewmakes phonecalls to the insurance company.

meanwhile we found some body parts in our search...

it was 3 blocks away inthe middle of the street.....it was a pretty powerfull blast

turns out it was just a whale from the local Aquarium that Wandered off in search of food after a late night doobie, and thought our fridge might have a tastey treat for him.

one eye witness knownas"CrazyDave" made a911 call from his room atSmellyPines nursing home and stated thathe waslookingout the windowata full moon when he seen What appeared to be a Whale fly by.

Theyupped the dose of ''Crazy Daves" medication the next morning after he swore to the Nurse about what he saw...

now hesbeen relocatedfrom the nursing home to the NutHouse and his only friend is a strait jacket named "Clyde".

I dont think that would be a real thought out idea for him. My buddies always mess with me and say "He's ready for Iraq" or some crap because we have guns in every room/closet of our house except for like our living room (in the open), bathroom (why?) , and kitchen (no room)!

I don't know why everyone is so concerned. A broadhead to the brain will make short order of anyone, Without hesitation I'd let one go. I'd probably aim mid chest but given the right opportunity, the head shot is deadly. LOL:D

Thats a real messed up question, but a arrow is more deadly than a bullet anyday. I have a small house and the guns sleep with me in the same room. i dont know why anyone would want to rob me though i dont have much.

First line of defense. Labrador. He'll lick you to death but barks real good when someone comes up the driveway. No one is going to mess around myhouse without me knowing about it. Once I know about it, the .45 and the phone are both close by. God help the guy who tries to break in on me and my family.

Bow? No way.

RE: bow for defense

The only way an intruder might get me inside my home, is only if I take too long deciding which gun to grab. I've got three within 5 feet of me in the bedroom. Most likely, he's gonna get some 12GA #4, 3"mag buck in any extremety I happen to have a shot at.

Bow as a self defense weapon? Only if I thought I could get at least one clean shot at him before he opened up, or I might throw it at him and take my chances hand to hand.

No way to the bow. I sleep with a Sig P226 loaded with .40 calS&W Hornady 180g TAP Personal Defense ammo within 3' of me. Ialso make it a point to hit the range once a month (even if it's just with my .22L semi-autopistol)to keep my skills up (plus I do a fewtactical drills every now and then). I even have my wife run a few rounds throughthe Sig every now and then........as Itend to be away on two or threebusiness trips each month. In the time that it would take me to get at my bow,I couldget at aRem 870 12g and load it up with a few 3" 00-buckshot.

I prefer the gattling bow, it fires a whole quiver of arrows in 1.7 seconds! [:-]

Actually, I'd probably use the bow as a club.

My father has a crossbow pistol. Its quiet, quick and easy to reload (although you shoot well enough you only need one). But the best thing is that it won't go through the wall and into a neighbors house.

a true story:

aMan is in his Bedroom getting ready for bed.

he hears someone enter his house and start milling around on the 1st floor(bedroom upstairs).

Man quietly grabs his Pistol from the nightstand. then proceedes to creep downstairs.

he confronts the burgler at Gunpoint...the burgler has a knife...one thing leads to another and the burgler gets shot..

burgler is seriousely wounded but lives ... the burgeler presscharges...against homeowner.

during court The prossecuter asks the homeowner if he had a phone in his bedroom? homeowner answers yes.

prosecuter asks if he had a lock on his bedroom door? homeowner answers yes.

prosector asks why didnt you lock your bedroom door and call the Police from your bedroom phone....i'm not sure of the exact reply here but....

the way things played out the man got charged with something a little less than attempted Murder....be carefull what you do...if you do decide to take action shoot to kill(if youhave six shots use them all....if you have 9-15 use most of them.)
