All you guys that say you would enter one if you shot it, are you shooting a bow the qualifys? 65% let off or lower? I dont know anyone that hunts with a bow that meets this criteria.

I think I would. I don't see anything wrong with it. Hopefully I'll get an arrow into a P&Y next year on my Illinois trip. Killed a small buck this year and had to watch as book buck after book buck walked by as I was hunting a doe. This is a little off topic but if anyone is wondering if Illinois is all it's cracked up to be, take my word for it, IT IS!

Buckshot, I've got 7 compounds in my house and not a single one exceeds 65% letoff. One of those bows is less than a year old. The rest are 'antiques' but still every bit as capable of killing a deer as they were when they were brand new. Then there are my selfbows, recurves and longbows that are 0% letoff. All I've got to do to put a deer in the book is to be in the right spot, at the right time to see the right buck, and then make the shot. But that's the trick, isn't it.

If you don't know anyone that shoots a bow that's P&Y compliant, you need to expand your circle of acquaintences.

Anyone that wants to have a 65% letoff bow, or is required to hunt with one due to hunting regulations, can certainly get one.

Certainly!

However,I do see both sides and respect both points of view. It really is a matter of choice. I aways said if I ever shot one big enough to make the book I would quit hunting. Years later it happened and I had to eat my words.

I used to think it honored the animal but I have second thoughts about that now. Unless it is a world record there are no pictures, and no deer names like Rudolph, Dohner, and Blixen to render honor to... just a few numbers, kill location by county & state, and the hunters name. I see no glory in it for the animal. If you want to do that mount the horns or head on your wall. So far my bucks that are in the book and a few more that qualify are suspiciously silent on this issue.

That being said I do think we need organizations like P&Y and others that help hunters unite and be heard.

As far as the let-off rule goes. There are a lot of bows out there that are P&Y legal. For the sake of time I won't go into it now but there is a big difference between "effective let-off" and "AMO let-off". In addition as with a couple of my bows, when the let-off wasn't P&Y legal I ordered a 65% module to make it legal.

For those who wrestle with the question of adjustable let-off (was it set on 65% or wasn't it?), poached bucks, finds claimed as kills, etc. I can only say that those people have to live with themselves. As long as I am not being affected spiritually, financially, and/or physically, I don't worry about anyone else's character but me and mine. I can't control that anyway, to thine ownself be true.

I consider it an honor to have taken bucks that are in and qualify for P&Y, but that is where it ends. I don't view it necessarily as a testament to my hunting skills or male prowess. This is not rocket science and we are not curing cancer here. We are simply participating in a pastime we love, and if we do everything right (and even sometimes when we don't), we might get lucky.

Antler Eater, I agree !!

Buckshot, Almost everyone I know shoots a P&Y acceptable set up.I personally shoot an Ultra 2 with a 65 % cam ,but I have never really liked high let offs.

Buckshot, also, and I don't shoot one but most of Mathews bows set at 70% actually qualify due to the actual letoff of the bow. If want indepthness, ask it in the Tech forum.

Also, that is a very valid question raised above. I shoot a Hoyt with a variable letoff. I shoot it at 65% but I truly don't know the answer to the P&Y stance on this. I assume they'll take my word for it....???

I believe P&Y takes your word for it, but if it's a top 10 candidate or a candidate for the Ishi Award they're a little less trusting. Then you're required to pass a polygraph.

Quick and easy question for those who have one in the books, how much was it and when did you do it?
