RE: 15-25mph too much?
It's a good time to hunt from the ground. The noise from the wind and the motion of the moving trees and bushes really help to mask your presence. I've had some of my best still hunting in high winds. Just check to be sure you can hold your pin on target in those conditions.

RE: 15-25mph too much?
Jeff,
If I didn't hunt in those winds I would never get to hunt here in Nebraska. I would say 85% of the time I am swaying in my tree stand. Sometimes the gusts up to 30-35 scare me enough to get out of the tree. |

RE: 15-25mph too much?
ORIGINAL: HNI_Christine I might not see anything but I won't know unless I go. :) One last note. I often think ahead to March, April, June, August, and remember those dozens of times I said to myself, "man, I sure wish I had gone out a few more days" |
RE: 15-25mph too much?
My biggest this year a 7 was taken during about 30mph wind

RE: 15-25mph too much?
I went to a low area along a creek so the wind was much less violent there.
Saw several bucks and one harried doe. One buck was a nice 3.5 year old. He was missing half his rack tho'. [&o] The little 1.5 year old buck pictured below wandered all over and picked fights with the other bucks. He even sparred with the 3.5 year old buck. (not for long) He ended being the one that chased the doe off. [:-] Sorry 'bout the blurry pictures. Hard to hold my bow and the camera at the same time. ![]() ![]() Buck from above picture sparring with a spike. One of two button bucks that came up to me while I was taking my climber down. This one was 10 yards away. |
RE: 15-25mph too much?
Not a totally unproductive sit. I ended up seeing 4-5 does, but none in range of my bow.
GregH.....not really looking for an excuse to NOT go out. I had the days off.....but i also have a LOT of work to do. I was just trying to make the most of the time I CHOSE to spend in the woods. I probably chose the wrong day. I'll never know. I'll be back out there Saturday, now. Should be better weather (less wind.....MORE cold!). |
RE: 15-25mph too much?
I try to find a spot somewhat out of the wind where the deer will feel they can trust their noses. And hopefully where the wind will blow in a constant direction.
