I went out into the rain this morning and knew the wind was coming. It hit all at once -- over 30mph gusts WITH the rain. I put up with it for as long as I could, then came in to dry off. I hunt for enjoyment -- that wasn't enjoyable!:D

Weather effects us way more than the deer as far as comfort levels. Deer live outside year round and don't have the luxury of saying "I'm not gonna feed today, it's windy(or raining, or anything). Their bodies produce a lot of body heat through their digestive system, they have to move/feed at sometime. I do believe fronts and weather stimulate moredeer movement but I do not believe that bad weather keeps them from moving all together. I make sure I have good raingear and good warm clothes for cold or windy days and if I can hunt I am going, you just never know what is going to happen (but I still have buck tags too). I killed my bigger buck this season on a windy,rainy day(20 mph with gusts in the 30's and heavy rains at times). Trust me I almost talked myself out of that hunt, but I finally decided tojust go and be glad I was hunting and hope for the best.

Now I understand what you are saying about having no buck tags left and only needing to kill a couple more does, and as far as that goes I would say you still have plenty of season left to accomplish that. Tomorrow and Saturday are looking good so if you don't really have the urge to go and youfeel like you are just going through the motions take ahunt or two off and stick one later this weekend or next week or next month, whenever. Don't burn yourself out. Just my .02, either way good luck.

15-25? Are you kiddin'? Some of the places where I've been, if you didn't hunt in that bit of a breeze you never would get a chance to hunt.

I always read that any wind speed over 15-20 would severly retard activity. I found this to be UNTRUE.
I saw more deer on the 2 windiest days of the season here (gusts to 35mph).Movement almost seemed to increace. It could have been that the deer were swaping bedding areas or putting on a feed in anticipation of a long storm. Not sure , but saw a ton of deer.
I did have to get out of my stand and sit at the bottom of my tree, but I won't let wind stop me again.

Personally Jeff i hate hunting in the wind like this, it makes it feel 10x colder, you cant here nothin, your face will be on fire when you go back home, and usually i see nothin! there was one time though i was hunting real windy day and was setting in a treeline that held a wet weather spring watching a field when a small 8-pointer snuck up on us and bolted out across the field... thats been bout it. im not a heavy wind hunter.

In the places I hunt, I usually see far less deer when the wind is above 20 mph. The deer I do see tend to be out in the fields.

I'm guessing all the noise from trees blowing around, leaves and branches falling tend to make the deer sit tight or go into open areas.

Having said that... The wind is gusting around 25 mphoutside and I'm still going to go hunting. It's the last day before gun season opens here. I might not see anything but I won't know unless I go. :)
