Never gonna score a deer again!!!

I scored a few racks I have hanging around just for the fun of it. I had thought a few of them were real solid bucks and was shocked to see what they measured vs what I thought.
I guess I am gonna shoot the deer I think look good and forget about score. Aside from the "just for fun" contest, scoring puts a competition into a game where it does not belong.
If you guys have any bucks on the wall you are "guessing" go 140 I suggest you do not measure them.
You may be unpleasantly surprized.

My brother-in-law shot an 8 point the other day that he confidently said scored in the upper 130s. I saw it hanging a few days later when he wasn't around. 116.
I'm not gonna bust his bubble.

Everyone has limits to the buck(s) they are gonna try to shoot. Like i wont shoot anything smaller than an 8 point unless its huge and even then i wont shoot certain eights or even small 10's. I really dont even care what the score is. I just love hunting and everything i learn and take in from it. Its not all about the trophy, but a lot of it to me is the memorys and that "I DID IT!" fealing. Even though it is nice to have a big trophy.
Just my 2 cents

I shot a deer nov 1 that grossed 169 and net 150 if you are talking net score I agree a buck can shrink fast due to deductions I also shot a buck on oct4 that grossed 143 and net 116. When you start figuring abnormal points the score drops even faster. A trophy is a trophy no matter what the score

Rob/PA asked me the other day what the buck I shot last week scored (the bull). I may never know....and it doesn't matter. He likely wouldn't outscore my '06 buck.
I don't see anything wrong with scoring deer....and I LOVE guessing the scores. I also think that you could get three very different scores from 3 different people. I've seen some deer in the contest that amazed me (but the OTHER way
).

Good for you. After all it is just a number. That number should not take away what the deer means to you.
Also, some on here have conducted some "guess what he scores" tests and proven that most guys have inflated estimates of what a deer scores.

Yeah, most folks green score too, and then never touch it with a tape again. To go in the books it has to be scored after a 60 day drying period, alot of folks would be shocked at what that does also. To make that 125 P&Y minimum, that baby better be scoring 135-140 green.
In the end, it doesn't really matter to me. I score all mine just because I am curious, but don't put a whole lot of faith in all that "He scored 150" talk. A nice deer is a nice deer, no matter where ya are.
