RE: Have you killed your "Deer of a lifetime"?
Troy realizes he has. I post this because of something a co-worker (who I respect a lot as a friend and a hunter) said it to me on the ohone, during lunch. he told me that's a "Deer of a lifetime"....talking about my buck I shot, yesterday. He's not a high scoring deer. He's not the biggest deer in my Co. He's just a deer I have a 3-yr running history with......he's a 4.5 yr old.....and I have to wonder if he IS my deer of a lifetime.
I don't think there's anything wrong with feeling like you have taken your deer of a lifetime. Can't you always be pleasantly surprised???;) |
RE: Have you killed your "Deer of a lifetime"?
Nope, not yet, have him on video though from two weeks ago. He's 13 scorable looks like, right brow is split, about 13" long. Just a monster, 6X6 with the split brow makes 13. Looks to be in the 180 range. Sure hope to get him in close. was about 75 yards away when I filmed him. So, if I get him, he is definitely the buck of a lifetime for me. I've shot a few 8 points, one is about 125, but nothing even remotely close to this one.

I have always thought that if I could get a 160+ inch whitetail in MN...it would likely be a buck of a lifetime for me
Best so far is 145 |
RE: Have you killed your "Deer of a lifetime"?
I have to seen the deer of a lifetime about 13 years ago. He was a buck I had been chasing for 4 years. I affectionately called him the rocking chair because that is what it looked like he carried on his head. I used to see him every summer, but once October rolled around he would disappear. The only time I saw him during hunting season was in mid-November 1994. He came by at 50 yards chasing a doe. He was that "one" buck for me, and that was the last time I ever saw him.

i think thats one of those things like asking sports stars about their accomplishments. they always say it will be something to look back on when they retire, but while they are still playing, they still have business to do. thats how i look at it. and heck, maybe you can get more than one buck of a lifetime, be it a sentimental deer or a big one.

RE: Have you killed your "Deer of a lifetime"?
I think a lot of guy's "buck of a lifetime" will always be out in the field. Every year it is this deer that keeps us going. It is this deer that we share stories about and how we want that deer so bad. It is what got me started as a bowhunter. Hearing my father talk about a deer they all called "Christmas tree" cuz he had so many stickers. Nobody ever got that deer but that deer drove so many people to crawl in their stands day in and day out. I will say that many of us prolly have already shot our "personal best" but we always look to top that. If we didnt, we wouldnt have anything driving us to crawl in the stand at 6:00 in the a.m.
