RE: Have you killed your "Deer of a lifetime"?

I don't think there is such a thing as a "deer of a lifetime". I say this because ther is always next year and you never know what your going to see. (unless you grow deer)
Good awnser Bigj71 and i agree, I don`t want to really think there is such a thing heck thats one of the thrills that we get when we go hunting not knowing what we will see? a spike or 180inch?

Yes I have, it was my first. There is only one first in everything you know:)hence it is the 'deer of the lifetime'
That doe meant so much to me. Not even my first 'nice' buck could compare. However, there are many ways to judge that...even if one was to base it solely on inches of antler(which I do not) I would always know there might be a bigger one out there.

I think everyone has the wrong idea of this one. I think it means more of a deer that ment so much to you that your never gonna forget it, not so much a buck, but the memory that comes with the buck, like with your grandfather when you killed it or even he killed it! if that makes sense. its not always about you, and maybe you hunted with someone that ment the most to you and they passed away and now all you have is that memory. and maybe thats what keeps you going. Thats more what i think this post is about.

Ryan.

Yes I feel I have forsure with one, my current #3 archery buck in Idaho.. I killed himin 03. To me he is a deer of a life time. He grossed 184, netted 177 5/8 nt. Low 160's net typical.

Below, the kill (early sept).. the shed antler I found before killing himand the mount

P.S. I don't plan on stopping with just one either.. but no matter what I get in my future, I will always look at him as a Buck of a lifetime..especially here in my home state of Idaho

Tough question, I would like to say my first deer ever killed with a bow. It set in stone where I am today and look forward to the future as a hunter. From that point on the bar was set and with each kill it goes up. This year a booner, last year was a P&Y. Doe's have their place too with due respect.

Troy what was the spread on that beast?

Ok I had to edit, that was deer of lifetime, now buck of a lifetime thus far is my 168 G, 160 N P&Y13 pointer which is also on cam.
*My sons still have to hunt in the coming years*

Congrats, Troy! That's what I'm talking about. I'm happy you recognize it as such. It doesn't do anything to diminish future seasons....it's just a "realization".

Thanks for posting him. He is something to be proud of!:)

Sorry i miss understood.. But my awnser would still be no.. I don`t think there is really such a thing as a life time deer, How can you compaire one memory to another when you don`t know whats going to happen on your next trip out?

Like taking a deer with you dad that has maby only a couple month`s to live or you being there for you sonwhen he takes his first or taking a buck that you have hunted for three or four yrs?

I just don`t see how anyone could be in the middle of there hunting career and say they have taken there best?I like to say there all great and fond memorys some stand out more than others but there all wonderfull.
I keep hunting to repet that same felling

Boy....that's well put.

I agree, you never know what the future holds and that's why I posted that I don't think there is such as thing as a "Deer of a lifetime" until your "Hunting Life" is done. I for one plan on that happening when many years down the road my Grandchildren get tired of dragging their big ole grandpappy into the woods.:D

When I put up my gun/bow and look back on my life that was hunting, it will be then that I can truly know what deer was the most special to me. I have a funny feeling it won't be one I killed.;)
