Too many times on these forums I've heard" I would have shot him ". It's a lot of big macho talk by people that I don't believe would realy carry out what they are spouting. It's almost never justified no matter how you look at it. Do you really think that it's that easy to kill someone that is not directly threatening your life? If you do then perhapsyou are the one we should be concered about! In this case Rhino has a bow, the other guy a gun. Dah.Evenif youhad a gunyou're stuck in a tree. You can't duck and dodge. Shooting would be a lastresort self defenseonly option. This reply is not directedto anyone inparticular butthose that talk big and think small about these type of situations.

You go ahead and shoot someone just walking on your property and not directly threatning you (shooting at a tree 150 yards away is not you) and giving you no other choice but to draw your weapon to defend yourself and you will be going to jail. Might be a good idea to loose the Billy bad ass attitude if you are going to carry also.

Don't know how your state laws are for defending ones self, but you might want to look into them.

All I hear is........"I was sitting in my stand and saw some straw hat wearing redneck 150yards away shoot at a tree on my property. So I started yelling at him and waited for him to walk up to me where we have a few words about whose property it was. If I had my sidearm on me even though it illegal to carry I would have shot him cause he could have been crazy or spaced out on some form of drugs. He walked off to go check on some bamboo, and I decided to get down now to make a phone call."

I agree. alotta macho talk. Unfortunately in this country we live in, the outlaws have more rights than the law-abiding. So if anyone did shoot this guy, they are the ones going to jail and being sued for every penny they have, not the trespasser. Also, if it comes to it that you need to shoot the guy for whatever reason, you had better make sure he doesn't make it. Then there is only one side to the story. This isn't advocating killing someone, but that's the thing that must be done to avoid prosecution. If you do have to, after it's done, put a few rounds in a tree next to him and tell the authorities they were fired first as warning shots. This is a "cover your own ass" situation, not "it's my land an I can do what I want!"

Um, anyone carrying a weapon in fireing condition(always assume such), firing into a tree on MY land, wouldnt get a warning....
My land=him dead !!
I think most active Marines or former Marines would be pretty disgusted at these remarks. I know I am.

call the cops, let him walk by, and follow him from 200 yards... if he is a dumb redneck shooting trees, high on something, and u are a stealthy, expeirienced bow hunter, just linger behind him, let him lead u to his bamboo plants (WTF IS THAT?) and inform the police of his whereabouts once he makes his way from the bush onto a road or a parking lot... but who knows, if he was a nutcase, with a rifle, looking for illegal ****, perhaps he wouldnt take to kindly if he ever seen u.... did i hear mention of a marine or sumthing?

Some of the comments on here are just plain stupid. You shoot a guy walking on your land, who is not directly threatening you, you just bought yourself a one way ticket to jail, not only that, if he sues you and wins it could become his land. Now if he points the gun at you, and means you bodily harm in some way, well that is another story.

I can see the headlines:

Lost hunter shot with arrow, kills crazed bowhunter in self defense.

Or an even worse headline.

Stupid bowhunter shoots at lost hunter and misses. Lost hunter shootsstupid bowhunter in theleg and drags him from tree. Lost hunter makes stupid bowhunter squellllll like porky pig until his son Bamboo shows up and takes over. Stupid bowhunter gingerly leaves woods and heads to drug store for some Preperation H.

I never said I would have shot the guy! Holding him at gunpoint to ensure my well being is in no way illegal. I got down and walked out of the woods becuase I didn't see the point in staying in the tree with this guy walking around my woods.

No way I shoot someone on my land(if I owned any)...unless of course they threatened me with a weapon. Good lord I wouldnt want to spend the rest of my life in jail.
