Good 10Pointer Hit!
#1
I am looking for opinions. This morning at 9:00 my Dad shot a pretty nice 10 pt. It wasn't the ideal shot, but it was the best he was going to get. He is a good shot , and was confident. It was about 10 yards away and quartering towards. He hit just behind the shoulder and it exited back towards the gut. It knocked the buck back, and then he turned and loped off. Not really running hard. He got down and found his arrow, a complete pass through. The arrow has yellow slime on alot of it, and blood on the fletchings. He found where the blood started and marked the spot. It was bright red blood.
I am thinking a one lung hit and guts. We are planning on giving it about 4 hours. Does it sound like I am thinking right. Let me hear some opinions.
Thanks,
Dan

My guess(and thats what it is) is that he did indeed get one lung and more than likely judging by the yellow slime the liver. Give it the afore mentioned amout of time and start tracking! Good Luck!!!

What's your temp. situation? If it's good.....why not give him more time??? What's to lose? I'm just going off "gut" here.....but I'd leave myself 2-3 hours of daylight.....(whatever time that is for you) and go, then (assuming tmeps were right). If he's gutshot.....he needs all of that.
If temps are REAL good.....I might wait until much later.

The slime is usually intestine. I wasn't there so I don't know what else was hit. But if it was only intestine, I'd leave him till tomorrow.
Give him plenty of time, Gut shot 5-6 hr intestine 8-12 hr or more!
