Default Getting a buck in illinois creek

I was out last night & made my own ground blind out of a burlap camo type cloth. I was sitting near a creek amongst many scrapes & trails. It was getting dark &there was a buck about 40 yards away directly across the creek. He sat down & kind of kept looking in my direction & he was downwind so im sure if he would have smelled me & he would have been gone. But I was wondering if there are any calls, grunts or anything else that would have gotten him to come across the creek or at least into shooting range. I live in West Central Illinois. T

I forgot to add that he was there for about 15-20 minutes eating then just walked away the way he came.
