Default woods vs fields

I am taking my little brother hunting this weekend to hopefully shoot his first deer. The area we are hunting is 50/50 fields to woods. At this time of the year do you think it would be better to overlook a field or open woods? We just want to kill a deer it doesnt have to be a trophy. Thanks

You first must find out where they are!!! You can sit in a tree in any location all day and not see a deer if they aren't coming to that area.I would suggest you do some scouting and find funnels, tracks, bedding area etc.. and set up a little off of them. Good Luck
