RE: Too much wind?

If the tree that I am sitting in is swaying to the point of where I don't feel safe...then there is too much wind for me to hunt.

RE: Too much wind?

There are certain places deer and elk hole up when it is extremely windy. These conditions make them real nervous; since they can't smell anything except what is straight upwind from them, can't hear squat, and everything around them is in constant movement. They tend to lay up and focus their attention on the area directly downwind from them. If you know where these places are and can stalk in there with little movement, high winds can actually be a plus. Shootin in the wind sure sucks, though :)

RE: Too much wind?

Living in West Texas, we do get some pretty strong winds. I will still try to get out and hunt anyways. There have been several times that I will go out in the evening while it is really strong winds, and it seems that about thirty minutes before the sun goes down, all the wind stops blowing (I don't know if that is a Texas thing or what) and you can see all the deer begin to move to get to the feeders. Seems like a great time to hunt to me.
