Greg/MO, if you don't mind could you send me pictures of these types of straps or links to good pics?

Thanks, LT

Using sticks or steps, who here carries a hangon strapped to their back, hangs it, and then when taking it down is able to carry it back down on their back? Just curious, thinking of selling my new climber, buying a Lone Wolf Assault with LW sticks with the thought of carrying it on my back going up, and carrying it on my back as I go down. Quick and quiet as long as its safe.
Never carry your hang-on up or down on your back. All I use are hang-ons, but I carry them up or down with a strap around ONE of my shoulders.

Although this is the way I've always done it, since 1988 when I bought my first stand, it was impressed upon me as being the correct way when a good friend died while carrying one up on his back.

While climbing with the stand strapped to his back, a tree step pulled out, causing him to fall. He hit the ground on his rump and wrapped his head backwards over the stand, where it grips the tree (the V), and snapped his neck!

By carrying it only over one shoulder, you can toss it aside or hopefully, just break an arm. Not kill yourself should you fall.

Take care.
No comments on the safety aspects of this??!! I'm surprised.

The lone wolf is hard to beat for mobility, but dang it is unconfortable... I think the millenium system with the lone wolf sticks would be very hard to beat! I've got both and will give it a shot this year.

Here's a simple cinch-type strap that comes on the Lone Wolfs... the Summit Copperhead uses the same buckle... You just pull it up tight.

LT, a different Greg, but here is a picture of what Lone Wolf uses and I think a few stands may use it. I think Loggy Bayou does or did. My old Amacker and Hi-Point locons use a much wider pull strap, but I don't know where you can find them.

Sorry Greg, we must have been typing at the same time.

Those are the straps I have on my ladders now and when the buckle hits the ladder (as careful as you might be it doeshappen)it is very loud.

Greg H. I am sorry about what happened to your friend. Personally I think the lack of comments of what happened to him while carrying a stand on his back while climbing is due to it could happen no matter if the stand was on his back or not if a step broke. Certainly landing on the stand added to it or helped cause his death.

I always carry my stand on my back going up - just use a line's man rope when you get to the top. I use a lone wolf full body harness. i sold my lone wolf hang on to my buddy and now use a millenium hang on. most of my stands i already have steps and brackets for the stand up but i keep an extra bracket and set of lw sticks for new spots. the comfort is so amazing on that millenium stand i had to go for it.the lone wolf hang on is easier to pack in and fits on more trees because of it's adjustability. both really awesome, they hang in about the same amount of time, maybe a little more exertion with the lone wolf but not much.

I don't believe that this is true. See crude pic below.
