Opinions please?
I'm active duty Air Force and just found out I'm getting orders next Tuesday. I have 2 choices. From the aspect of hunting should I take the Grand Forks North Dakota base or the Altus Oklahoma base. Oklahoma base is in the southwest corner near Texas. The base in ND is on the border of Minnisota and ND on the Red River. Has anyone ever hunted these 2 places or lived there. My family can't go with me so for the next three years I'll be hunting and fishing to keep me out of trouble. I really know nothing about the game in Oklahoma, I have some knowledge of ND.

RE: Opinions please?
THWACK, first of all I have the same question as jetblast, second I had freinds that were stationed at Minot, if that is where you are going they say that it is one of the best places for a family to go because of all the outdoor stuff available from the base rec department has for rent, like snowmobiles, tents, boats and a lot of other stuff. If you are going to Minot alone you will go stir crazy, there is virtually nothing to do except the outdoors and during the winter you will freeze your rearend off!

I lived near G.F. for 3 years. Bowhunting in the riverbottoms of N.D. is second to none. I still miss it to this day, however i plan on going back to bowhunt next fall on some of the same properties i hunted 6 years ago when i was attending Mayville State University about 30 milles south of G.F. Also Devils Lake N.D. is about 1.5 hrs. west of G.F. this is a fabulous fishery. WARNING: winters are harsh. Let me know what you decide. I can maybe help you out more if you decide to go.

RE: Opinions please?
tried to answer you guys but it didn't take so I'll try again. I have the option of taking family because it is a stateside move but we bought a house here in SW Iowa 3 years ago and like it. I can retire in less than 2 years so I'm going to take the GF assignment and then try to work a 1rst seargent job back to Offutt NE next year sometime. I may end up in the sand anyway for at least 2-3 months so I want her close to her family. GF is only 7-8 hours away. So it's not really a sacrifice on my part but more of a sacrifice on Amy's part because she'll have to keep the kids out of trouble and I'll be hunting, fishing , and going to school. She just got a huge promotion with 1rst National Bank so she wants to keep it. They went civilian on a lot of jobs at Offutt this year so I should be able to get a job here when I get back. We just thought it would be better for her and the kids to stay put in case we decide I should retire when I get back. Thanks for the offers, I may take you up on it. Are guys in BIO as swamped there as Offutt folks are. We've had nothing but problems with our EMIS system.

Thwack,
I fully understand now! When my special duty assignment is done here in Greenville, SC, and if I can't a get another years extension, I'll be in the same boat as you. But I'll only have a year left till retirement. I also have a house with kids settled in school (for a change) Can you say kimshee (sp?)!<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
