Let's talk about scent sprays.

My boots are wrecked. But seriously, how much scent can really squeeze out of a few holes in a neoprene/rubber boot? I guess a few of the holes are pretty big...
Justin - I do spray my stuff down too - stand, seat and backpack. Boots are definitely ready for replacement. These ones are beat.
I don't do a mask, b/c they just drive me nuts. No gumoflage either, but I probably will start taking chlorophyll tablets. I meant to do that before the season, but forgot all about it.
Anybody have a gently used pair of Alpha Burly (sz 10) that they wanna sell? LOL

In line with what Mikey said - I try to toss my Scent-Lok stuff in the dryer before packing it up when I can. Like he said, sweat/moisture gets on the clothing and then you lock it up in an air tight bag and that's just a recipe for nasty scents to start happening. This is especially true after early season/warm hunting condition hunts.
As for the mask, it drives me nuts too but I still do it. It's kind of an acquired taste and something you get used to after awhile - to the point where it's no big deal anymore.
My hunting partner/cameraman Mike (dukemichaels) has been taking chlorophyll tablets this year and practicing the same scent routine I have and hasn't been busted once. We had some deer at 10 yards last week putting their noses up because they smelled something out of the ordinary, but they never spooked and blew out of town - and we certainly could have shot them if we wanted to. Keep in mind this was in some brutally humid conditions when we were both sweating from walking in, climing up, and getting our gear all situated.
In regards to soap/shampoo/sprays I've traditionally used the HS or Scent Shield stuff and been happy with it but I switched to Dead Down Wind this year and so far so good. We'll see how the rest of the year pans out, after all it's still early.

yea, it sounds like the boots may be to blame...heres my theory:
Even if the holes are small, it will make a difference. your feet are pretty much plugging the tops, so every time you shift your feet, move your toes, etc, a small quantity of air will enter/leave those holes. that air would likely carry a pretty large quantity of scent with it being from your feet (average feet perspire, and hence smell, almost as much as armpits).
thought about just patching them if you dont want to buy a new pair?...course then you have to worry about the scent of whatever product you use.

Yeah, keeping your boots in with your clothes is a no-no as well. I must've missed that part. The inside of your boots is probably the worst smelling part on any item of gear/clothing you bring into the woods. That's why it is recommended that you put your pants OVER the top of your boots. If you don't, the scent from yoru boots is constantly escaping out of the top as the moisture and heat rises out of the top.
Keeping your boots in with your clothes just exposes all of your clothes to the nasty boot-smell. Pesonally, I keep my rubber boots out on my porch, or in their own rubbermaid container by themselves with another HS Scent Wafer in the bottom. I figure if any smell is going to permeate the rubber and stay in there, I'd rather have it be the Fresh Earth scent than anything else.

Quick this is what I do
4 Containers
1 Fresh Hunting clothes
2 Worn Hunting clothes.
3 One for my boots
4 one for my pack and other gear.
I never mix worn clothes with fresh. If I am sweating likepig I just take the clothes home and wash them again.
I think a big plus last few years have been X-Scents, I did a test on th socks. I wore the same pair for 4 days in 90+ temps in KY. No order on the socks or inside of the boots. I also put a little powder in my boots.
Is the Homemade stuff mixed in the same pan as your meth

My boots don't really smell all that bad - but they've got about 5 pounds of baking soda inside, though. My boots stay in the shoebin with all my other boots over the offseason. After season starts and I'm wearing them all the time, I kinda just have them floating around the garage with my stands andhunting stuff(no car or anything smelly in there). For the ride out, I throwthem in the bin with my clothes, just so they don't get anything nasty on them from the trunk or truck bed. I guess that's a bad idea.
I think I should order a new set of Burlys. I just hate blowing $100 on something that I already have. [>:] Maybe I'll call LaCrosse and complain that their boots are junk and fell apart from "normal" use. LOL See if I can get a new pair under warranty.
I always tuck my pantlegs down inside the boots. I guess that's probably one mistake that I may be making. I probably don't tumble-dry my clothes often enough either. Once every 2-3 hunts, depending on whether I sweat or if it rains.
Yes Gary - I do mix my scent killer in my Meth pot. I spray it in my mouth when I need a fix.
So I see lots of success with the Earth scent wafers. I've always shyed away from any scent, even earth scent - just on the basis that no scent is better than "earth" scent. Maybe a little cover might make the difference. I'll pick up a couple earth-scent wafers tonight.
