UUGGGHHHHHH!!!!!! (venting)
So here in upstate New York things are about to kick off this Saturday. I've been hunting a piece now for three years and I am starting to shoot bigger deer and more deer with my time at the place. It's about 60 acres and a great spot when outside properties get pressure. So I get a call today from a man that has gotten permission from the land owners wife. He is going to set up a stand today and wanted to meet me to show me where he wants to hunt and see where I hunt. He has his stand set up before I get there and is proud as a peacock when he wants to show me where he put his stand. On this 60 acres I have 3 stands, 2 of which are in the same tree. This guy walks me past my double set to a tree roughly ten feet past it. I turned around and pointed to the double set and he claims he never saw the stands. So I'm expecting this guy to start taking his set down. Instead he says that we will have to work something out with who hunts when. I was so shocked I coulndt say anything. I kept hinting to him that he should hunt somewhere else and gave him some other ideas. At this point the owner is within earshot and I dont want this to seem like an issue to him and lose therights, so I keep my mouth shut. I then left and drove home and the more I think about it the more pissed I get about the situation. Tomorrow I need to call this guy and tell him my thoughts on the situation and that Id rather not have him hunt that close, even if we have to rotate. I got thinking about it more with the scent control and what not. Then I got to thinking about how this guy must hear from the owners wife about the deer that I have shot from their land and what not. Needless to say after I got home I was so frustrated that I didnt say something right off the bat about him moving. Sorry about the length of the post but I really had to vent. Do you guys think I'm handling this correct? My fear is that the owner stops all hunting. Let me know. Thanks.

I was in a similar situation, the best advice i can give is make it sob story. Hopefully he will move it sucks i know, i had three guys walking through the woods i hunt on opening morning. They were looking for trees to hang their stands in. Turns out this gus is some distant cousin of the land owners wifeand got permissin at 11 the night before. It sucks but at least you have 60 acres i am hunting 5. I havent seen that guy in a while or heard from i just kept talking about how this is the only place i have.

So after venting on here last night and talking it over with one of my buddies I called the guy this morning. No answer. I left a nice voicemail about him relocating his stand so we can cover more ground and avoid over hunting the site. Hopefully he understands where I'm comming from on this. I'll keep everyone posted.
ps. I guess its time to buy some of my own land.

qzq38b,
I have no problem with this guy hunting on the land with us. Theres 60 acres and he wants to hunt the same 10 yards as me. From my stand I could spit and hit him. The other issue is I'm trying to get my fiance into bowhunting. Shes shooting great and taking her course this Saturday so I'm hoping to get her in the double set sometime soon. Started her turkey hunting in the spring and shes been all about it since she bagged her first tom. I'm trying to keep this spot "fresh" for her to increase her chances.

Alright I didn't get a call back today so I called him. He says that he got the message and thought about how to take care of the situation. Hes going to leave his stand in there and not hunt it. And then wants me to tell him after I shoot my deer so he can hunt the set up. Still not sure how I feel about this. Kinda like I dont want to tell him about killing a deer out of that stand.Anyways, at the end of the conversation he says that I should have asked him to move the stand the first night. I replied that I was kind of shocked that he didnt offer to move the stand as soon as he relized my stand was there. Hopefully theres no hard feelings and things work out.
