Default Scrapes

bucks do this before the rut or during? because if so(before) if you spot one do you put your stand near it or what are your strategies for that?

Ive seen scrapes start to show up the last couple of weeks around field edges. I dont beleive these are what you would call (pre-rut) scrapes. To my knowledge deer will have a "community" scrape(s) that are used all year long. but to answer your question the ones you will find that are being made and freshened now through november, those are the ones that you want to set up on, in hopes of whacking a trophy! hope this helps

Scrapes started appearing this last week in my area. Nothing major yet, some of these are little bucks. give em about another week. Youll notice that most scrapes and rubs are made during nite time hours, so I dont use scrapes to hunt by. I find out where they are coming from and going to and sit in the middle abotu 20 yards off a good beaten runway.

I was heading to my treestand sat.morning and noticed a scrape right on the field edge about 10 yards from my treestand. After my my hunt I set up my trail cam to see if I could catch the deer/deers that are hitting this scrape. Well I went and hunted the same stand last night and when I arrived instead of one scrape in the area there were 5 freshly hit scrapes. Well guess what, I now know what was making the scrapes. Here they are. all are within a twenty four hour period. To bad it looks as though they are all hitting the scrapes at night. None of the bucks are real big but def. some bucks with great potential. The last pic is hard to see but when you zoom on it you can tell he has a very tall rack. He may be the only shooter out of the bunch. Just to dark to tell.
