Remember one of the basics of winning a debate:You don't necessarily have to prove that you are right, just that they are wrong. (Credit that to law school.)

And once you have your basic points down (Hunting is necessary, it is our heritage, etc), make sure you look at the problem from their perspective. What is their ultimate objective? Whatarguments are they going to use to support the bigger objective? (This is were they will use emotion, etc.) And how do you rebut it?

And remember that a debate totally lacking in emotion isn't very compelling either. But don't get caught up in the emotion.

You might ask them if they're against all hunting or just people hunting. Ask why they believe it's ok for a cat to kill a mouse or a wolf to kill a caribou or a hawk to kill a rabbit and then for them to explain why it's ok for other animals and not humans.

With all due respect to BigCountry, this is for school, so I would suggest using facts and logic, rather than religious texts, unless you attend a religious school, where that kind of argument will carry a lot of weight.

Well, I hear ya, but you definately don't know the Bible belt too well. I know in Ky and TN, the Holy Bible carries all the weight.
If it did there wouldn't be any anti's.

Many people from all over now live in those parts. If the boy thinks it will help, use it, but it does have the potential to take the debate in a whole different direction.
Not in the parts I am talking about. But your a buckeye, so that kinda says it all.
Exactly what I'm talking about. Were not even the ones in the debate and it's gotten off topic.

For the sake of argument and as an example to for the young man to learn. Your original comment was that the states of Ky. and Tn. are were "the Holy Bible carries all the weight". Now you are reducing that down to certain areas in those states. Care to give a percentage for each state? Off course I do expect it to be from your personal knowledge of those states based on your travels around them

For the young man in the debate.
Notice how this has nothing to do with hunting and potenionally leads a person to say things they would later regret. It is that, that I hope you avoid.

Tell the truth. Be assuredthat hunting is good and necessary. Love your neighbor as yourself.

It's hard on kids these days. Don't bepartof the reason one of your classmates feels, life is no longer worth living.Leave with your dignity and allow others to do the same.
