Whenever you hit a deer there is a definite sound just like there is a sound when you hit a target. On a deer hit in the chest it sounds like a watermelon being hit with a hammer I think.

I can hear a different sound on impact with a mechanical broadhead, versus a fixed head. If you don't hit any major bony structures, a fixed head will give you a deeper"Kagunk" sound.
Back in the day, I used to shoot these little 65 grain mechanicals called "Punchcutters," and upon impact, they made a very distinct "slapping" sound.
I've killed deer with the Rocket-style heads, and heard a different sound - almost like a "crack."
If you wanna do a little experiment - go out and buy yourself a big old Halloween pumpkin (leave the guts init) - and shoot it once with a mech head, then rotate it 90 degrees andshoot it againwith a fixed head. You should hear 2 different sounds.
