The inspiration for this topic came from my old friend Rob/PABowyer with his first reply to my Handgun topic. Thanks, Rob! LOL.
Back in 89' a friend of mine shot a nice trophy buck.
While he was field dressing his deer, two strangers appeared at his side armed with rifles.
One of the guys told him the deer was his and he appreciated that my friend had field dressed it for him.
My friend couldn't believe him and said... "You've got to be kidding"!
Both guys pointed their rifles at him and told him to slowly unload his rifle, give them the cartridges, lay his rifle on the ground, and beat it.
He did as he was told and went into the woods.
Oddly enough, they didn't check him for more cartridges and didn't take his rifle.
He waited until they were out of sight, ran to his rifle, and went after them.
He had planned on getting his deer back but heard the ATV speeding away.
He was too late and they were gone by the time he got up to the road.
My friend sat down and wept on the spot.
He said, he felt like killing both of them.
I told him that it wasn't worth going to prison or getting killed over a deer.
But heck, I wasn't standing in his shoes and didn't know how he felt.
But it sure angered me me to hear his story.
Forward to 1994
My cousin shoots a deer in an open field and drops him.
He goes up to his downed deer.
Another guy comes up to him from the woods and says..."That's my deer". My cousin says... "No it's not". "It's mine"!
Three more strangers show up and surround my cousin.
They all tell him the deer belongs to their friend.
My uncle arrives and asks what is going on.
His son tells him what has happened and says the deer belongs to him.
My uncle says to first guy.
"This deer isn't going anywhere".
The guy that said the deer was his says..."There's four of us to two of you" My uncle says..."If you touch this deer, I will kill you, wade in your blood, and kill everyone else if I have to".
One of the guys says... "This guy is nuts", "let's get out of here", "no deer is worth dying over".
The four guys slowly turn and leave.
Leaving my uncle and cousin to finish field dressing THEIR deer.
Later, I asked my uncle if he would have shot those guys.
He said, "Damn right, I would"!
He really is nuts! LOL.
As for myself...
If it were a doe, no problem.
I'm not going to fight over a doe.
A huge trophy buck of Boone & Crockett proportions ?
You better not take your eye off me or let down your guard.
I know, I might get criticized for fighting over a big buck and not a doe.
But I have been wanting a big trophy buck for years and wouldn't take kindly to someone wanting to steal it from me.
What about everyone else ?
Would you guys let it go or put up a fight if someone wanted to steal your deer ?
...And what if it was a giant trophy buck of a lifetime ?
Would you be willing to use deadly force to keep YOUR deer ?

Oh I would fight!! doe or buck. they would have to work to get that deer, get me ? and if they won the fight they could have the deer, vice versa...... I'm not the one to fight but in a case like that its time to rumble.

I would just gutshoot him and pick up his trail the next morning, give him a little time to realize he screwed up trying to take my deer from me.<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>

you better believe it..im 15 and the size of most grown men...im 5'8&quot; 200lbs and lift hard...and i pack a mauser chambered in 3006 if you want MY deer that bad that youd hurt me...id consider you nuts to try to take a deer from me..when i say my first buck(4th deer) i was jumping in the air pointing at it sayin its a buck its a buck!...i had to look pathetic it was this year lol...thats how excited i get over a deer with antelrs..even though it was just a little 6pt....it doesnt matter he stands up there with the BC and PY bucks if i have a say so...i admier his rack every nite before bed...you dont understand what them little piecec of marrowless bone mean to me! you try telling me a deer i dropped and know i did is yours your nuts and were gunna box thats all there is to it...my dad went to get the truck 100yds up the road..hes like keep your rifle and shells incase someone gives you trouble..i thought about that while he was gone and was like hmm hes right...a 15yr old iwth a buck and a big doe and a nice button i would be pretty vonerable for someone desperate for a deer or 3....they wouldnt get my deer without a fight and still wouldnt take it from me unless it was maybe a doe and i had meat already that season or something like that...

so now its gone from car jacking to deer jacking? sagittarius, the story sounds bogus. ive hunted a many of years and have never heard of someone strong arming a deer form another person. ive heard of two hunters thinking they dropped the same deer always ending in a peaceful solution. but ive never heard, by a credible source or other wise, that a hunter had shot a deer and someone comes along and takes it from them. in my hunting experience, i have always found that fellow hunters afield where decent law abiding citizens that will go so far as to assist another hunter to field dress and drag the deer out. i have personaly helped a stranger/hunter and visa versa. so all the sudden there are parts of the woods where deer stealing gangs hang out? so now groups of guys get together and decide, ok guys this year we are going to follow other hunters, sit and watch them, and &quot;if&quot; they shoot a deer, we will come out of the woods one by one, like an old western movie and confront him and steal his deer. it doesnt make sense! or is it the roving deer bandits that just walk around the woods looking for other hunters that were successful to steal deer from. your buddy that was approched by the two guys. these two guys were dragging a deer carcas behind them and your buddy couldnt catch them? is your friend a one legged hunter!? im sorry, but hunitng and being in the woods is one of the last pure, innocent, uncorrupted things left in this godforsaken world. there is no way im going to entertain your non-sense.

You can always tell the folks that have never been in a real gun fight. Or, some of you folks don't value life very much. No deer is worth shooting someone over. No deer is worth being shot over. Family and friends yes... but not over a hunk of meat or bones. I'm not a wimp... I just would hate to have to answer all the questions.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> Ya'll want to play &quot;Macho Man&quot; go right ahead. Any guy who would sit down and cry because someone got away and he couldn't kill them is truly sick. Either that or he realized how stupid it was. Yes it would be a bit$h to be held up like that. But speaking from experience, getting holes blown in your body is a lot worse.

Eastwood, you must live a sheltered life in a good community state because it surely does happen and you'd be surprised how often.

Davidmil, I'm no macho man either but I stand by my conviction that no man will invade me in such a way. If he's such a coward to stick a gun in my face over a deer, I don't have the quams about defending myself with whatever means necessary. That holds true for me in all aspects of my life be it short or long.

I pray that none of us ever is in such a situation and discussing it is probably mute.

I am with Eastwood on this one. I have never heard of someone using deadly force over a deer. I am in law enforcement and I go to the woods to escape all of the criminals. I do carry a pistol with me, but that is for protection of myself and my belongings, not to fight over a deer.

THERE ARE WAY TO MANY UNETHICAL HUNTERS OUTTHERE AND I AM SURE ALL OF US WILL HAVE OR HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO THEM.
IT IS SAD THAT IT HAPPENS AND THEY HAVE NO THOUGHT OTHERWISE.
I WILL NOT FIGHT OVER A DEER BUT BECUASE I HUNT PUBLIC I HAVE BEEN SHOT AT MORE THEN I WANT TO SAY NOT BOWHUNTERS SQUIRREL AND PHEASENT...
THIS YEAR I DID HAVE ENOUGH THOUGH. ME AND MY FREIND HAD 3 KIDS BOWHUNTING WITH US. WE WERE A MILE IN THE MARSH!, SURE ENOUGH IF THE COW BELL AND SOME GUY YELLING TOM COMES ALONG...I LOST IT!!
FLIPPED MY COAT AND HAT AROUND TO SHOW ORANGE, FLEW OUT OF MY TREE TO PACE THIS GUY ( YES I KNOW HE HAS THE RIGHT TO BE THERE, BUT HE SHOULD ALSO RELIZE NOT EVERYONE IS A BIRD HUNTER!!!). I STARTED YELLING AT MY FREIND ABOUT THIS TIME THIS GUY NOTICE FOUR MORE MATERIZE OUT NOWHERE...AND TURNED WE WENT UP TO THE BIRD HE WAS TRYING TO FLUSH AND DARED HIM TO SHOOT IT.... YET NOW THIS STILL PISSSES ME OFF, HERE WE ARE TRYING TO GET THESE KIDS A DEER AND ONCE WE HAVE TO GET CHASED OUT OF THE WOODS!!!
WI.DNR SHOULD PASS BETTER LAWS FOR THE MAJORITY THAT CAN'T AFFORD PRIVATE LAND TO SO WE ARE ALL OVERLAPPING THERE ISNOT ANY REASON THEY NEED TO BE OUT THERE AFTER 3:00PM !! ALSO THEY SHOULD GIVE YOU A TEST EVERY 5 YEARS LETS SAY THAT YOU HAVE TO TAKE A ETHICS, KNOWLEDGE, WRITTEN THEN THE WEAPONS THEY USE MAKE SURE THEY CAN HIT WHAT THERE AIMING AT....THIS MAY ELIMANATE MOST THE IDIOTS OUT THERE.
