If you're looking to take time off of work this year for the rut, take off the first full work week in November!!!

I think it has alot to do with the amount of sunlight ( and I don't mean cloudy vs sunny ).....and the moon......I think that if it's hot, deer won't move as much...because they are hot....put on a fur coat....you want to run around with that on in the heat, or when it's cooler?...just my opinion.....

I always thought the rut was triggered by aphotosensitivity. As they day get shorter things kick in. But like solunar tables and things like that I figure the best time to kill a deer is when your in the woods. I've shot deer during the peak full moon when it was light enough to read and I've shot them after nights that were darker than my wifes heart.
Personally I like the first week of november here as the bucks are still looking and not following some doe that will be prime shortly.

NORTHERN ILLINOIS IS PRIMARALLY THE LAST 4 -5 DAYS IN OCTOBER FOR LIGHT ACTIVITY AND THE FIRST 5-8 DAYS IN NOVEMBER FOR HOLD ONTO YOUR BOW DONT HAVE TIME TO HANG IT UP ACTION. THIS SEEMS TO BE MY BEST PEAKACTIVITY IN THE AREAS I HUNT....

I am heading to RockIsland Mercer Countyfrom the 10th to the 16th I hope I have a hold on to your bow week. This is the Mrs first time hunting I want her to see what it was like in Illinois. I have been going out there for 3 yrs and all my hunting bubbies say I am wasting money ect... Until they hunt it they will never understand.

It sounds like you have it pegged.
If the full is on the 26th this year, what are your thoughts for the best dates to hunt?

Drury's claim that in their full history they've killed more big bucks the 3 days of Nov....the 8th through the 10th...that is right on with what I've seen.

I'm off the two weeks following Halloween for our 2 week closer. Even if I'm back to work by then, I'm on vacation those 2 weeks.
