trying to site my bow in for season this year. I have heard that there is a way to mark your bow site with a make shift range finder. Use the bottom of the site and line it up on the under belly and the tick marks that you make on the side will tell you whether the deer is 20,25,30 ect yards away.

My only problem is that I do not know what the average heightof a deers torso is. Can anyone help me?

there are some rangefinders that are made to mount on bows but they cost a arm leg and a 12 point buck

this home made version is supposed to be acurate within a 3 yard window

Let me explain. 1 yard short or 1 yard long in the army this equals 3 yards. Don't ask i have been in for 16 years and still do not understand it.

never heard of such a range finder and don't see how it could work the way you explained it.

I know exactly what you are talking about.

There are marks on the ring of the sight. You line the bottom mark up with the belly and whichever tick mark touches the deers back tells you about how far it is from you.

I could see how these things might work alright from the ground, but when you get up in a tree i could see how things could get all messed up.

I would just be safe and get a rangefinder or mark off your distances prior to hunting and tag them with something.
