How do you pass the time in the stand?
What do you do that helps you to bear the long hours out in the deer woods?

i think about my past hunts that when good,somedays go by fast just because whats happening,you dont even have to see deer

I pass the time by telling myself that the big buck I'm looking for could come by litterally, at any time!I do all day hunts only, during the rut!;)

i do something odd in the stand to pass the time i ya thats right when i am on a hunt i hunt all the time lol
i had a friend that used the time to balance hischeck book i think e did it in the stand because it made him feel better about all them checks that had hunting marked in the memo spot another played like to play cards and i once took my cabales book with me |

I text on my cell phone but i make sure its either on vibrate or silent lol. Or else mentioned above day dream or take a nap..

i take on of those little new testiments (green cover and all) and a game boy micro ( i know i know ....boo!gameboy) but it keeps my mind busy and me still, and thats all thats important.

After I get my safty harness on I find myself going...That tree is 23 yrds,that stump is 17,that tree over there is 31yrds then I mentaly set up my 20 yrd perimitor....then I mentelygo thru my drawing of the bow for differant shots.....Then wounder witch way the deer wil be comeing thru......and alot of other lifes ?...

I think about past hunts. Most of the times I hunt and think over every scenario what if a deer comes from this trail or that trail, how will I grab my, bow when to shoot...etc! I always spend a little time talking to my Pops! God Bless him!

I usually take books to read. I prefer the Bible.
This year I might take a small Sudoku book. It keeps my mind going while keeping me awake. Speaking of awake, I sleep alot on stand too. Some of the best naps I've ever had have been ina tree stand, in about 30 pounds of clothes, right after the sun comes up. Good stuff. |

I take along a little handheld poker game. Not only does it help pass the time, but all that practice helps me win some gas money back at camp.:D:D:D

Watch for deer. A good pair of binoculars added hours to my stand time. I enjoy the small game: small birds, turkey, hawks, squirrels, bobcat, raccoon, even donkey and cows. But mostly, I just watch/listen for deer.

I will buy a good book to take to the stand and read a paragraph here and there. Last year it was Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six. Have not decided on my book for this year. I am thinking maybe Tom Clancy's Slinter Cell, or maybe Ghost Recon.

I like to read a book when i am sitting all day. On short sits i have no problem staying focused. I have seen the Realtree guys using the hand held games and i think i might give that a try this year, since so many are trying it.

I must admit, for the first time this year...when whitetail hunting from a stand..not elk....I have been using my new cellphoneto cruise the internet..read articles, check the wind hour by hour..etc..

I like to sniff my farts. But when doing this you must use a safety harness because some will make you fall out ofyour stand.

No, Im just joking. What I usually do is hunt hard and what that means is always stay alert with high confidence. It only takes a few seconds for a monster buck to slip by you undetected so I am always scanning the surroundings hoping and waiting. It just seems like you see more when your not preoccupied with other things.:eek:
