I can't help with the hunting BUT I can with the chiggers.
As soon as you get home take a nice hot bath add 1/2 bottle of RID (head lice medicine) in the bath tub water first.
Result= no itch.

I know how you feel i went saturday evening, no deer but great to be in the woods again non the less. Even saw a turkey but was unable to get a shot, flew away before i saw it on the ground.

If it was easy we wouldn't call it hunting. Keep at it and eventually you'll see something during the light. you might want to think about moving your stand in the direction the deer where heading when you heard them before light if they were consistent in their travel.
